The REAL Food Revolution

June 3, 2013 Annie 6 Comments

realfoodI’ve considered myself a “healthy eater” for many years now, possibly even my whole life. I was raised in a family where we had home cooked meals every evening, and a brown bag lunch with an apple every day. We didn’t get much soda or sweets, and we ate what was on our plates. I thought everybody ate that way…turns out that’s not so! There are kids out there that have survived on a diet of pure chemicals and refined sugar. Now that I have a child of my own, it is solely my responsibility to nourish his body. I don’t take this responsibility lightly! I need to feed him things that his little body can use to build and grow healthy muscles, bones, and brain! How can all of that growth happen if all he gets is sugary cereal, manufactured meat nuggets, sodas, etc.?!?!? Yeah, that’s right, it can’t and it won’t!!!

So, I have made the commitment to myself, my husband, and my child to feed our family the best, most nourishing foods that I can get a hold of. Starting today, it’s all REAL food! No more half-assing the healthy eating. From here on out we’ll be consuming lots of fresh, local vegetables, fruits and meats. We need our healthy fats, nuts, and seeds. Sound familiar? It might be…we’re going Paleo. Not strict Paleo, but the focus is on eating the way that the human species was built to eat. We’re cutting out all the man-made chemical crap that’s loaded with sodium, sugar, artificial colors, and a million other things that I have no idea how to pronounce, let alone what it might be doing to my body!

We’ve been conducting a huge experiment here in America with what we’ve been putting in our bodies. Did you know that the average American adult consumes 140lbs of sugar every year??? Think about it, people…can that really be good for you??? We have an obesity epidemic that is paired with rising levels of diabetes, heart disease, etc. Our children are getting fatter, can’t concentrate in school, and are sick. Are you surprised? I’m not. Our bodies need NOURISHMENT, not chemicals! Are you with me??? We need to educate ourselves and respect our bodies when we’re deciding what to eat and drink. I know I expect a lot out of my body, and my body has served me very well…it deserves nothing but the best, and so do YOU!

Have you read any of Michael Pollen’s books? He has a lot of interesting things to say about the processed food phenomenon. And a lot of what he says fits perfectly with the Paleo plan.

Hmm it seems like your website ate my first comment (it was super long) so I guess I’ll
just sum it up what I had written and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your
blog. I too am an aspiring blog blogger but I’m still new to the whole thing.
Do you have any helpful hints for inexperienced blog writers?
    I’d certainly appreciate it.

Hello just wanted to give you a quick heads up. The words in your content seem to be running off the screen in Safari. I’m not sure if this is a formatting issue or something to do with internet browser compatibility but I thought I’d post to let you know. The layout look great though! Hope you get the problem solved soon. Cheers|

About Me

I’m a 40-something year old new mom who happens to be somewhat addicted to working out and imperfectly “eating healthy”. This is my safe place to share my journey…and give you a little insight into what goes on inside this mostly-sane brain.

Not enough scoop on me? Well, I love the ocean, sushi, chocolate cake and wine (not necessarily in that order or all together). I partake in the occasional cigar with my handsome, loving, and opinionated husband. We had a pretty awesome baby boy named Samuel Liberty, aka Sammy on October 12, 2012 and are enjoying the crazy, challenging, incredible journey of life with a new little being in our house!
