At Home With Silver Horse!

February 11, 2010 matt 6 Comments

Here we are again…opening wine at home!  I mean, why not, right?  Tonight, we picked out a 2006 Silver Horse “Big Easy”.  http://www.silverhorse.com.  This is another one of their great red blends, 50% Tempranillo, and 25% each of Grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon.  Steve Kroener, the owner and winemaker at Silver Horse is a great guy…quite a character, and definitely knows what to do with a vat of grapes!

So, we looked into what characteristics a Tempranillo, the dominant varietal might have, and grabbed a bunch of random stuff from around the house to help us identify the aromas and flavors.  We definitely think that this is a great way to attach something real to all those descriptors that the wine snobs keep talking about.  I mean, really…have you ever read a wine review about something you just bought and it says something like “silky overtones of smoky tobacco layered with hibiscus and notes of caramelized earthy spices”.  Ummmm, what does that mean, exactly?  Do I want hibiscus or earthy spices in my wine?

Another note…you definitely have to take a trip out to the Silver Horse tasting room.  Steve and Jessica will take great care of you, and you won’t believe the great wines they have out there!  Throw all that together with a view that will knock your socks off…and we’d have to say that this is one of the greatest all-around wine experiences of the Paso Robles area.

You two are a riot. I loved it! Thanks for the plug. I have a feeling you might develop a following. One suggestion Matt, tri-pod!

    Cheers,

    Kroener

Love it… The Vlogs keep getting better and better. You can see that both of you are becoming more comfortable and I enjoy the play back between both of you. Keep them coming…
