Ortman '07 Syrah Rose

June 4, 2010 matt 2 Comments

What a perfect wine for a warm evening on the back deck!  This Ortman Syrah Rose is tasty…dry, and very friendly.  The Ortman Family has a ton of winemaking years under their belts, and they really got this one down!  http://www.ortmanwines.com/index.cfm.  The color is beautiful; a rich, deep pink, and it smells great!  On the nose we got that fruitiness that you get from a Rose, but not too much…strawberries, watermelon, and a little bready yeast smell.  Then the flavor steps up and fills your mouth but doesn’t coat it with sugary sweetness, it’s got enough acidity and balance to leave you wanting more.  We’re still getting into the Rose’s, and must admit that it was a little bit of a challenge at first.  The key is practice…practice…practice!  😉  Somebody’s got to do it, right?  We dare ya…

Awesome, guys… love a Rose’ this time of year. I tend to lean towards a Tavel or Sparkling Rose… great stuff. Keep up the great work!

Hey Ed, we’ll definitely have to try a sparkling Rose! Sounds delish…any you recommend?
