Ever perched on top of a hill and felt like you could see the whole world below you? Well, that’s what it’s like at Calcareous Vineyard! http://www.calcareous.com/ It’s about 5 miles East of downtown Paso Robles, out a winding road and then up the hill…where you pop out on top of the world at 1550 elevation! They have one of the most amazing views you’ll ever come across in the area! The beautiful tasting room is mostly all windows, looking out across their large grassy area and then off into forever. You can taste their wine while sitting at a table out on the grass, or in the comfort of the tasting room while browsing through some of the cool stuff they have out for sale there.
Calcareous was started by a father and his 2 daughters from Iowa who headed out here with a dream of making good wine in a beautiful place. They have a lot of Rhone wines, some white, but mostly reds, and they’re pretty good! There’s also a Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, and some interesting blends to try. Oh, and don’t forget the Mourvedre Rose! If you make it out to Calcareous on a Saturday or Sunday, you can order yourself some lunch to enjoy out on the patio…pretty cool place they have there!
