Believe it or not, we do…get thirsty every now and then. This time we were thirsty for some cool weather wines, stuff like Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Now, don’t get the wrong idea, we love our Rhones and all the other lovelies that come out of Paso Robles, but we also appreciate the other wine regions just within our reach. That includes the San Luis Obispo area. One of the “stars” of wine making in SLO is Stephen Ross…he’s had his hand in the making and growing of some of the most terrific wines that come out of the area. He’s a modest man, this Stephen Ross, but his reputation in the industry, as well as his wines, speak for themselves.
As there are cooler breezes and night time fog in the San Luis Obispo area, they produce some great Pinots and Chardonnays. It’s pretty hard to beat a glorious Pinot Noir! Oh yeah, or a buttery and smooth Chardonnay that melts in your mouth. While there are definitely some great Pinots and Chardonnays in Paso, they’re a lot harder to find and just don’t do as well as they often do in cooler climates. He does do a really tasty Zinfandel from Paso Robles, though, as well as some other interesting varietals that round out the tasting list.
So cruise on down to the Tasting Room in San Luis Obispo, not far off downtown, just a bit South. It’s a good one!
