So long as you haven’t been living under a rock, you know there has been a huge food truck revolution in the US! Mainly in the big cities for obvious population density reasons. Hoot has read numerous articles about the Los Angeles food truck scene and how they’re using social media (Twitter and Facebook) to advertise where they will be at certain times to draw real-time crowds.
To our surprise and excitement, there was a food truck at the recent Earth Day Food & Wine Festival we went to…because in our smaller town you just don’t see that many so it really stuck out. Duncan Palmer is the owner and chef of Porter’s Food Truck, and we caught up with him at the end of the Earth Day event because he was slammed most of the day.
Remember to check out the website (especially if you’re a San Luis Obispo County resident) and follow them on Twitter and Facebook to see if they will be driving by!!

The novelty aspect is interesting! I’m in L.A., where it’s become the norm to see entire city blocks lined with gourmet food trucks. There have even been instances where brick’n’mortar restaurant owners have fought to have them banned. The trucks are still there, though, doing good business from early in the day to late at night. I haven’t seen any restaurants go out of business as a result yet.
Hey Randy! Yeah, it’s pretty cool that a mobile restaurant can rock the food scene in a place like LA or Chicago! I guess the ideal situation would be for a restaurant to gear up a food truck to be their feet on the street…getting the word out even more! That way they’d get the best of both worlds. We’re waiting for the food trucks to descend upon the park in Paso Robles!!! Cheers!
Come to little ole’ Columbus, Ohio if you want to see a well teched up Food Cart Industry! Tweeting their locations, holding contests, working after hours affairs in tandem. Lucky for me and the store staff, we are located just southeast of our downtown area and can have cuisine that ranges from Japanese fusion to Mexican to plain old American to gourmet cupcakes or ice cream. One of the best after hour affairs is annual Signature Wines event where she invites the food carts to her business and serves a selection of her wines. Live music, lots of hip peeps like the two of you…you’d love it!
Wow, Cheri! That sounds like our kind of gig! We’d love to come hang out and eat snacks and sip wine with you. The whole food truck thing is such a cool idea…hmmm…maybe a Hoot ‘n Annie wine and snack truck is in our future!?!?
Dustin was certainly a novelty in our neck of the woods! We are so grateful to have his support! Love the “young” (everyone is young to me) is into the shop local and deliver the goods philosophy! Nice job!
Hey Kris…looking forward to more food trucks in OUR future! What do you think about a food truck row next year??? 🙂
