The below post is about one of those awesome moments last year at Earth Day Food and Wine Festival and we wanted to share it again now that we are approaching the 2012 festival. This event stands out to us because of its emphasis on sustainability in farming related to wine and food. To top it off, the group that puts this event on (Central Coast Vineyard Team which runs the SIP certification program) is truly one of the best teams of people assembled around such a worthy purpose.
This will be our third year in a row attending and we look forward to seeing how it all comes together. If you are at all in to wine, food, or the cause of sustainability in farming we recommend that you check out their website and if you’re going to be in the area at the time of this event (April 20-22, 2012)…come join us and sip on some SIP Certified wines!
Meet our Uncle Murray at Earth Day Food and Wine Festival 2011
We had an awesome opportunity to interview Jim and Kathleen Tigan of Tactical Avian Predators at the Earth Day Food & Wine Festival. As we were walking through the crowd we noticed this majestic hawk (found out it was a Harris Hawk named Uncle Murray) on Kathleen’s arm so we had to go check it out.
As we were chatting with them we asked if they’d be willing to do an interview, and they graciously agreed. You’ve got to check this out, it’s such a cool concept. They do environmentally safe pest control using trained hawks and falcons for vineyards.
And as you can see, Kathleen threw a glove on Hoot and he got to hold Uncle Murray…WOW, Hoot got a hoot out of that!!

We really appreciate Jim and Kathleen doing the interview and we are really in awe of what they do…these are amazing creatures!! Many thanks you guys, keep up the great work of protecting vineyards and educating the public, cheers!!

Matt & Annie!
I just love being part of the event that brings all these kewl characters together.
Thanks so much for all of your kind words & support.
And we have some new stuff this year – demos, sheep, worms – who could ask for more?

WORMS!!!! We love worms!!! Thanks for putting on such an incredible and fulfilling event! Can’t wait to see all the new stuff…and the old. Cheers, and have a great week!
Wines, Hawks and Falcons how grand add worms/night crawlers way awesome! Jealous of Hoot getting to hold the hawk! Wondering if worms are used to breakup the earth? Let me know. Please

We’ll find out about the worms for you, Denise! I think it has to do with using them to enrich the soil…but I could be totally off!
Yes that is true too.
