I wish I had remembered to do a video while we were at Pear Valley Vineyards because it is amazingly beautiful out there but you’re going to have to rely on my words and the handful of photos you’ll find below. This is a great spot on the east side of Paso Robles on Union Road. The way the property is laid out you find yourself driving up this long driveway that’s absolutely surrounded by grape vines and rolling hills…amazing!
The winery buildings are beautiful as well; this very decorative block covers the tasting room building as well as the wine making facility. The tasting room is big and they also have a full kitchen and big extra room they often use for events. They have a few patios to sit and enjoy with some amazing views…again, you just have to go check it out!
On to the wine…here’s what we tasted:
2010 Sauvignon Blanc
2010 Chardonnay (no oak)
2010 Tom’s Oak Chardonnay
A Muscat Canelli
2011 Rose
2010 Zinfandel
The Daily Red
2008 Cabernet Franc
2009 Inspiration (Blend: 59% Syrah, 32% Grenache, 9% Mourvedre)
2008 Syrah
2007 Cabernet Sauvignon
2009 Cabernet Sauvignon
2009 Distraction (Blend: 27% Cabernet Sauvgnon, 24% each of Merlot and Malbec, 17% Cabernet Franc and 8% Petit Verdot)
2009 Charbono
I believe we tasted one or two others but don’t have the information
As you can see they have a big list so be prepared to either have a driver, spit, or dump after very small tastes. The wines are quite enjoyable. The standouts for us were the Chardonnays, the Cab Franc, the Inspiration, both Cabs were nice (I preferred the 2007 and Annie preferred the 2009), and the Charbono is crazy unique to us. First and only one we’ve ever had or even heard of (here’s the Wikipedia info on Charbono).
I recommend taking a picnic out there if it’s warm enough to sit outside on a patio and hang out for an hour or two while enjoying the wines and the views. It really is a great spot to relax and absorb what Paso Robles is all about!
Thanks to Melinda in the tasting room for taking care of us (we took Annie’s mom out there with us, and Sammy of course), we will see you again soon!!
Have a great Monday folks!
