Wine 4 Paws, this is one of those local Paso Robles events that goes to benefit much more than the wine drinking public. It goes to benefit our four legged friends at Woods Humane Society in San Luis Obispo. As you may know, I am a sucker for wine events that go to help something. Otherwise it’s just a bunch of adults standing around getting drunk for no apparent reason.
Below, Sarah Tomasetti, gives you her take on the event. That should count for something as she is the one that started the event to benefit Woods as well as promote our local wineries. Thanks to Sarah for reaching out and giving us this information.
Here on the Central Coast it’s easy to find plenty of reasons to go wine tasting – the scenery, our amazing wines, and friendly people out and about, whether they are fellow tasters or pouring the wine. And we’ve got one of the best reasons of all to hit the wineries in April and stock up on wine: Wine 4 Paws, April 25 & 26.
Wine 4 Paws is a weekend when 70 Central Coast wineries – and olive oil producers – join together and share their proceeds with Woods Humane Society in San Luis Obispo. It combines two things many of us love – wine and animals! What better excuse to get out and see what our Central Coast wineries have to offer?
Wine 4 Paws began in 2009 as a way to promote our wineries while raising money for Woods Humane Society. Last year’s event raised just shy of $40,000! Overall, Wine 4 Paws has raised over $150,000 for Woods. With the money raised, Woods can continue to provide a high level of care to their guests and assist other local shelters. Please join us as we help homeless animals in our area who await their “forever homes”.
Whether you live here, come to town regularly and have some favorites, or are visiting the area for the first time, you’ll have plenty of wineries to choose from! The 7th Annual Wine 4 Paws will take place April 25-26, with 70 wineries from Santa Maria to San Miguel participating. To take part all you need to do is visit any of those wineries that weekend. You can find a list of participants at www.wine4paws.com. These generous wineries will be donating either a percent of your purchase or your tasting Fee to Woods local Humane Society.
Need a map to find your way to the Wine 4 Paws Wineries? You can print a map & passport from www.wine4paws.com, or pick one up at any participating winery that weekend. Passport, you say? That’s right – it’s FREE, and when you help a winery generate a donation, they’ll stamp your passport. With four stamps you can turn that passport in to any winery when you’re done, and you’ll be entered in the Wine 4 Paws raffle. Who knows, you might win a private tasting plus wine for you and some friends, a free wine tasting tour, a night’s stay here in Paso Robles, or other great prizes!
Many of the wineries are dog friendly, so if you want to bring your little buddy along you can – but please be prepared to leave your dog in the car with plenty of water and shade if necessary. Here’s to seeing you out and about April 25th & 26th!
Sarah Tomasetti is a California native who has lived on the Central Coast with her husband Steve for 14 years. After volunteering at Woods for a couple of years, she came up with Wine 4 Paws as a way to do something more for Woods and promote our local wineries. The event was founded in 2009. Her work – in fact, all of the work done for Wine 4 Paws – is on a purely volunteer basis. Sarah lives in Paso Robles with her husband, 3 dogs and a cat.
