Paso Robles: Taste in the Alley

June 12, 2015 matt 4 Comments

New to Paso Robles is wine bar, Taste in the Alley. The name is an interesting play on words. The owners originally owned a wine shop in Solvang called Tastes of the Valley and from there opened a Tastes of the Valley in Pismo Beach (they no longer have the one in Solvang).

The reason they altered the name slightly for the Paso Robles location is that, well, the main entrance is in an alley. The alley is called Norma’s Way and it is between the Artisan restaurant building and Jackie’s Korean Fusion Restaurant on Pine Street.

Owners, Ash Mehta and Lissa Hallberg, are great people. We originally met them in their Solvang location 7-ish years back and have since been in their Pismo location many times. They are, in my opinion, another example of terrific local people with tremendous wine knowledge.

I’ve now been in the Paso location twice and I actually enjoy the vibe. It’s intimate, relatively small, decorated well, and actually feels a bit like you’re underground or in a wine cellar…which I guess you kind of are.

They are still in the process of fine tuning the decorating and getting the wine preservation machine in there but they are open for business and more than eager to pour you a glass of wine. Get in there, check them out, and let me know what you think.

I like it, Ash…and glad it’s working out there so far. We will definitely be in again soon.

I was hoping you could tell me something about the wines they carry. Their website doesn’t even say, unless it’s because I was using a mobile site. When I visit, I will check it out.

Jordan…I’ve only had a few from the by the glass menu. From chatting with Ash it will be a selection of wines from everywhere. he’s a serious wine buyer and the inventory reflects that. Two that I have had so far are a Luceant Chardonnay and a Belle Glos Pinot Noir.
