Grey Wolf Cellars. Haven’t been in quite some time. Decided to go back. There is also food and a distillery there now which I will get into another time. So let’s do this.
Grey Wolf is right on HWY 46 West next to Sextant Winery and across the side road from Tooth & Nail Winery. It’s a quaint little spot that the painting company I once owned happened to paint but that’s not the only reason I like it. Since our last visit Joe (owner along with his mom) has added a ton of outdoor seating.
This is, in my opinion, definitely a destination spot. Meaning, you go and taste the wines, get some food, buy a glass, and hang on the patio. If you haven’t overdone it at this point you go taste the distilled spirits in back. My guy tells me that this will become one of the “go to” hangout wineries on 46 West shortly.
I’ve enjoyed the wines there the last few times we’ve tasted and this visit was no exception. We tasted:
2013 Chenin Blanc (100%) $22.00
2013 The Broken Road (100% Viognier) $24.00
2013 Jackal (100% Zinfandel) $34.00
2012 Alpha (Cabernet Sauvignon) $34.00
2011 Mr. Jones (100% Grenache) $36.00
We bought a bottle of 2013 Sentinelle (Marsanne, Roussanne, Ugni Blanc) $24.00
As you will see in the slideshow below, they have a lot more wines that are purchase only, not for the tasting. So I enjoyed the Chenin Blanc, Viognier, and Grenache the most. Solid stuff continuing to come out of Grey Wolf. The bottle we bought, Sentinelle, was quite nice too. I would definitely buy that one again.
My guess is you’ll find us over there more often. It’s a mellow spot to hang out and watch the wine traffic cruise by on 46 West while sipping on wine, distilled spirits, and grubbing on some food. More to come on the distilled spirits and food in the next couple of posts. Cheers!
