We just came across this fabulous news from the Winemaker Challenge! Our good friend, Gary Eberle will be the Chief Judge. Way to go, Gary!
From the folks over at Winemaker Challenge:
Dear friends in wine,
I am pleased to announce that pioneering winemaker Gary Eberle, often called the “Godfather” of Paso Robles wine, has been appointed Chief Judge of the seventh annual Winemaker Challenge, scheduled for January 16-17 in San Diego.
Eberle was honored recently with the California State Fair’s Lifetime Achievement Award for his many accomplishments in the world of wine.
Just to name a few, Eberle led the charge to gain AVA status for the Paso Robles region in the late 1970s. The Eberle Winery 1980 Cabernet Sauvignon was the first wine in history to have the Paso Robles AVA on its label.
“Before then,” Eberle noted, “all wines from Paso Robles had been designated San Luis Obispo County.”
Eberle also was the first vintner to plant Syrah in California’s Central Coast.
Top 5 Reasons to Enter Winemaker Challenge
1. Judging expertise. Our judges are all highly regarded winemakers in their respective winegrowing regions and expert at evaluating the potential of young wines.
2. Marketing flexibility with scores & medals. Our judging panels will award platinum, gold and silver medals and also assign numerical scores to each medal-winning wine. Winning wineries may use either accolade, or both, to promote their wines.
3. Powerful third-party endorsement. When a group of skilled wine professionals pronounces your wines exceptional, that is a powerful message to share with your customers and potential new customers.
4. Press. At Winemaker Challenge, all wines awarded platinum will be reviewed and the reviews published by the online wine publication Wine Review Online. In addition, I feature highlights from the Winemaker Challenge in my nationally syndicated Wine Talk column, which I write weekly for Creators Syndicate, which distributes the column to publications all across America.
5. Added value. At Winemaker Challenge, we link winning wineries from our results page, and the results page is linked at Wine Review Online. This gives wine enthusiasts the opportunity to visit your website and learn more about your winning wines, join your wine club, or even purchase the winning wines.
