As pitiful as it sounds, Annie and I had not been to Sidecar in San Luis Obispo before. We tend to either hang out in our neck of the woods, Paso Robles, or go really far away like Hawaii, Portland, or Boston. I guess you could say we are extremists, there’s not much middle ground.
However, a few weeks back we found some middle ground. A friend of ours, Stew, who hosts The Garagiste Show on local radio station, Krush 92.5, asked us to come in and be on the show with him. That happened to be in SLO. We happened to get a babysitter. We happened to go do his show. And then…we happened to go to Sidecar,
We got there right when they opened so we were the only ones. The place has a cool vibe. Hipster meets craft cocktail distillery/ bar feel. I liked the décor and…if we lived in SLO…I could see it being a regular stop for us.
We ordered:
Matt: Sidecar Burger – bacon-maple ketchup, smoked mozzarella, garlic aioli, fries or salad (I got fries) $16.00
Annie: Steak Noodle Salad – soy marinated hangar steak, bean thread noodles, carrots, peas, cabbage, fresh herbs, sesame-soy dressing $15.00
The food was fantastic. I don’t eat anywhere near as many burgers as I used to but when I do I really, really want one that’s done right. This one ranked high on my list. We’ll definitely be back to enjoy this spot but I’d really like to try their dinner as well as a craft cocktail next time…since they are pretty well known for that.
That’s all I got for now…until next time!
