Wine Tasting: P.S. Cellars with Chocolate or Cheese

October 21, 2016 matt 2 Comments

P.S. Cellars is the new winery brought to you by our friend Lisa and is located right inside San Miguel on the Pleasant Valley Wine Trail. It’s where Pretty-Smith Vineyards used to be. She has a fun new lineup of wines and is offering an upgraded wine tasting experience by giving the option of a chocolate or cheese pairing for $5.00.

Since I’m not a big chocolate fan I went with the cheese tasting which is from Fromagerie Sophie in San Luis Obispo. Here are the wine and cheese parings:

2015 Arneis pairs with Ombra, a pasteurized sheep’s milk cheese from the city of Vilassar de Dalt, Region of Catalonia, Spain

2015 Grenache Rosé pairs with Tome de Fontenay, a pasteurized goat’s milk cheese from Vendee, France

Barbera pairs with Fior Di Noce Stagionato, a pasteurized sheep’s milk cheese from Toscana, Umbria-Italy

Aglianico pairs with Gorwydd Caerphilly, an unpasteurized cow’s milk cheese from Hewish, North Somerset, England

Bordeaux Blend pairs with Tomme Périgourdine Affinée, a pasteurized goat’s milk cheese from the Perigord region of France

The wines are quite nice. I really enjoyed the Arneis, the Grenache Rose, and the Barbera but you can’t go wrong with any of them. The cheese was so good and the pairings were spot on. I’ve noticed over the last few years how big of a cheese whore I am. We’re very fortunate to have so many great cheese shops in our area.

Moral of the story…get off your butt and go visit P.S. Cellars. You can’t go wrong with wine, cheese, chocolate, and great views.
