Wine Tasting: Domaine Degher in Paso Robles

November 3, 2016 matt Leave a Comment

Although we have tried a few of his wines before, this was the first time in Denis Degher’s relatively new tasting room and the first time through his wine list. He shares the space with Diablo Paso but did not taste with them that day. It’s on our list for the next downtown wine tasting we decide to do.

img_7972We’ve known Denis for years, going back to the Vinoteca Wine Bar days. He’s one of the fun local wine characters and is quite the musician as well. One of the fun songs he did was with his buddy, Paso Wine Man (Casey Biggs), called ‘I Drank Everywhere’. You can check that out here.

Let’s move on to the wine, here’s the menu:

img_79712015 Chardonnay $33.00

2015 Blanche (62% Viognier 38% Roussanne) $36.00

2015 Rose (Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah) $22.00

2013 Grenache Estate$38.00

2010 Old School Estate (52% Grenache 27% Syrah 21% Mourvedre) 90 points Wine Enthusiast $48.00

2012 Mojo Estate (45% Cabernet Sauvignon 25% Syrah 20% Mourvedre 10% Grenache) $48.00

We tasted three wines off the Library Wines list and they were the:

2009 Cabernet Sauvignon $56.00

2007 Mojo (35% Cabernet Sauvignon 33% Syrah 32% Grenache) $52.00

2006 Mojo (51% Syrah 49% Cabernet Sauvignon) $62.00

Good list of wines. It was a pleasure to have Denis pour for us and catch up. The Blanche was really interesting, we enjoyed that quite a bit. Others that stood out were the Rose, 2010 Old School Estate GSM, and the 2012 Mojo Estate. It was cool to be able to taste the 2006 and 2007 Mojo as well. Each very different.

Thanks, Denis!

Side Notes:

He has a B&B at his property. Learn more on the website.
