Benom Wines. Heard of it? Well, I have known of this wine brand since 2017 when they opened but until recently had not had the pleasure of tasting. Started by brothers Guillaume and Arnaud Fabre, they may just be on to something. Guillaume has the well-known brand, Clos Solene, and Arnaud has been Brand Director at Law Estate Wines. What would you expect when these two talented guys get together to create a label together?
Here’s a blurb from the website about the name, Benom: “Benom is the phonetic translation of the French word binôme, which translates to “a project together.” They are brothers, they are French, and for them making wine is a heritage.”
I thought this was perfect. It seems to encapsulate these two and their visions and ideas on family, wine, and community.
Here’s what we tasted:
2016 Les Deux Freres (50% Grenache 27% Cabernet Sauvignon 23% Tempranillo) $65.00
2017 Origin (100% Cabernet Sauvignon) $65.00
2018 Contrast (60% Chardonnay 40% Sauvignon Blanc) $50.00
2018 L’Essor (Rose) (74% Grenache 26% Cabernet Sauvignon) $35.00
The wines were great. We grabbed a bottle of the Les Deux Freres, Contrast, and the L’Essor Rose. Katie did a fantastic job explaining the wines as well as the vision behind the brand. The tasting room is simple, modern, and on the crazy hot day we went, the air conditioning was lovely.
I truly recommend checking Benom out. In this case, it’s not just because of how good the wines are. This is a great family that has become a solid part of the Paso Robles wine community.
Arnaud came in part way through our tasting so it was great catching up with him and again, thank you to Katie for taking care of us. A must check out spot!
