A Letter From My Sister to My Son

July 13, 2012 matt 16 Comments

Aunt Heather
Annie, Matt, and Aunt Heather

A while back I had told my sister that if she ever wanted to write something for our blog she could…she didn’t say much about that but yesterday Annie and I get an email from Heather and below is what she had attached. After reading it, and openly weeping, I asked her if we could post it on here and she agreed to it.

My reasons for wanting to post this vary. The main reason is that this letter my sister wrote to Little Browne shows the power and the love of human relationships. For Heather to have these thoughts and feelings about a human she has not yet met says something about our connections, our relationships, and our needs as people. This letter means more to me than any car, house, vacation, or check could ever mean. One day, our son will read this and it will take him back in time, the words in this letter will hug him and make him feel good, and it will always connect him with his Aunt Heather.
If you don’t think words are powerful…you are wrong. And if you don’t think human connections and relationships are the most powerful thing on the planet…I will forgive your ignorance. Thank you Heather for writing something like this and for being willing to share it. We love you!!

A letter to my nephew…

July 12, 2012

Hello, sweet boy!

I am your Aunt Heather (your daddy’s sister) and I can’t wait to meet you!  I’ve known your dad from the day he was born and I can honestly say I have never been prouder of him than in the last several years of his life.  He has grown into such a remarkable person…special enough to get your mom’s attention and convince her to spend her life with him.  Your mom is pretty special, too.  The sister I never had.  You are such a lucky little boy to be brought into this world by two people who have made such an amazing connection together and have nurtured an amazing “family” network where they live and online.

You are such a blessing – after a miscarriage in their first pregnancy, you came right along to fill the void that was left.  Your mom and dad decided to tell me and your cousin, Carissa, and Nana when we were all together in Indian Wells in March 2012. On March 15, your mom and dad drove down from Paso Robles to spend a few days while Carissa and I were in town visiting Nana.  As they were unpacking their laptops for an online wine tasting (mom was sipping and spitting), your dad pulled out ultrasound pictures of YOU!  We were so excited to see some of your first pictures and to know that we would have you here sometime in October 2012.  There was some excited screaming, tears and bug hugs all around!

Since March, I have been enjoying all the opportunities to watch you grow – from ultrasound pictures to livestream 3D ultrasound video to pictures of your mom.  And I can’t wait to finally hold you in person, hopefully in November!

I get teary eyed and emotional every time I think about you and what a joy you will be to your parents and their extended family.  I hate that I live so far away from you, but since your mom and dad are so into social media and online stuff, I know I will be able to keep up with all your doings!  I look forward to the times when I can come visit you or you and your parents can come to Texas to explore the wide open spaces here.

You are so loved, Little Browne!

Love always,

Aunt Heather (or Auntie Hezzy, not sure what’s going to stick when you learn to talk)

P.S.  I wish you the moon and the stars and anything else your little heart desires, but remember that nothing in this world is free…work hard, take time to enjoy life and live your dreams, sweet boy!  I love you!

@Jeannette Baer That is truth Jeannette! I’m not sure what happens with some parents…maybe life stresses them out, but if you can show up everyday and give a child love (and of course teach them, discipline, etc) the possibilities are endless. Cheers Jeannette!

I found the little browne site after a social media influencer called Matt told me about it. Amazing I have not heard of this site before. : – )  So little man. I am here to say your Auntie knows how to rock a letter. You dad knows how to rock a tweet and your mum I have not had the privilege of getting to know but she has to be special to be have you as son. I hope you read this one day. It is not easy being a dad or a mum. So help them out arrive on time, healthy and bright eyed. I will be waiting to greet your mum and dad on the big day and celebrate with them. It is a honor to be a father and mother and I know you will bless them and your Aunty with your love.
