I was recently contacted by the folks behind a local (local meaning San Luis Obispo) company called, The Cardboard Guys, to see if I’d want to ‘test drive’ their product. Well, not for me to test drive but for Sammy. So what’s the product you ask? It’s actually brilliant if you ask me. They currently make a kid’s desk and chair…out of cardboard.
That’s right, cardboard.
I need to correct one thing though. You actually buy the kit and put the cardboard desk and chair together yourself. Since I lack patience, Annie put this stuff together but it turned out to be relatively easy and no cuss words were used in the building of the furniture. So we’ve got that going for us.
It took Annie roughly 30 minutes to put it all together while I watched and took photos. Sammy danced around, attempted to help here and there, and finally hid in the box the furniture kit came in as you’ll see in the photos below.
The kit comes with markers, crayons, paint, and one paint brush. There are several purposes behind the furniture. First, it’s 100% recyclable when you are finished with it. Second, it’s a fun project to do with your kid. Lastly, it’s not only functional as a desk but it’s also made for them to decorate. Something they can color on and won’t get in trouble for.
We put the set together on Monday, September 21 and Sammy has not only used the desk many times each day since but has really enjoyed painting on it. He also enjoys taking Cardboard Corey, the mascot for the company, with him when he goes to the park and other places.
We’ve been extremely impressed with the strength and durability of the desk and chair. They have a photo on their website with 500 pounds of weights on the chair but they recommend not exceeding 250 pounds. I’ve sat in it and one of our friends stood on it. No damage done.
As parents, we’ve always tried to find interesting things for Sammy rather than all the status quo stuff. We’ve also tried to get him things that are better for the environment. This cardboard desk and chair is a great example of something that fits both criteria.
The last thing I want to mention is that The Cardboard Guys are offering 20% off their product if you use the discount code ‘LittleBrowne’. The code is set to expire on October 31, 2015. This could be a unique gift for the kids or grandkids in your life. Something different. Something fun. And something greener than your average kid furniture.

This is awesome! Love everything about this. Just a super idea and looks like it’s crafted well. Smart goodness in the world!
Karen, crafted very well. Very strong…I wouldn’t have thought that but it is. 🙂
Awesome blog! So Glad Sammy (Little Browne) enjoys it.
Hi, yup this post is in fact good and I have learned lot of things from it on the topic of blogging. thanks.|
