Parenting in the Digital Age

August 8, 2013 matt 10 Comments

parentingIâ??ve read several articles recently about mom and dad bloggers, as well as parents that over share on Facebook, and how unfair it is to the children. The point of the articles was to say we were not giving our children the right to privacy and how dare some of the mom and dad bloggers out there be making money off of their unknowing, innocent kids.

The only thing I agreed with in any of these articles is that there definitely are some folks that over share, hell, Iâ??ve been guilty of it at times too. The thing is that over sharing is the problem, not just parents that over share. On the other hand, if someone is over sharing and you or I donâ??t like it we can turn the channelâ?¦know what I mean?

One of the big reasons that we started LittleBrowne.com and created a Facebook page of the same name was so that we could share with family and friends that live near and far who donâ??t get to see Sammy regularly. A secondary reason is that this is the new â??photo albumâ? or â??life albumâ? if you will. The blog and Facebook page will tell a far more accurate story than I will be able to.

Another reason is that this â??life albumâ? is interactive. People can interact with the blog and Facebook page and as Sammy gets older he will be able to not only look back at how we documented his life but how those people around us interacted and documented it as well, far better than any plain old photo album if you ask me. Nothing against old school photo albums, in fact I do like themâ?¦but this penis enlargement foods is just more my style.

As Iâ??ve stated in several social media articles on Hoot n Annie, social media gives each of us a platform, our own media channel. We can do with our channel whatever we choose to do and people have a right to turn the channel. In regards to the kids, Annie and I are doing what we want to do and feel we are not doing anything to harm Sammy. When he gets old enough to understand what all of this is he will either like, hate, or have no opinion about what weâ??ve done and how weâ??ve done it.

I would say thatâ??s between him, Annie, and I. This is true with anything in life. You have to make the best decisions you can and Iâ??d love to meet someone that has made stupid decisions in their own life or done something on some level to screw their kids up. Itâ??s all part of the journey.

All that being said; I donâ??t know how long I will continue with this blog or his Facebook page. It takes a lot of time on our part and it isnâ??t a money maker. Itâ??s the constant balancing of time. I enjoy writing and expressing my thoughts so for now it marches on and I suppose the critics will continue as well.

The takeaway: There will always be critics in life, about everything. We need to shed the need of listening to them because it makes us question ourselves. Instead we need to do what our heart is pushing us to do. We only have one shot at this and Iâ??d like to write my own story than have others write it for me.

Well said. No matter what, there will always be nay sayers. I wish more parents would come together in a spirit of support and love. The constant comparisons, complaining and finger pointing is useless. We support you 100% in the wonderful job you guys are doing with Sammy. Parenting is the toughest job on the planet, and we need to support each other as parents.

Kelly…thank YOU for that. You’re family has been awesome!! I totally agree, it baffles me that as parents are doing the most difficult job on the planet yet it seems so “catty” and hateful at times. The harder the job is the more supportive and helpful we should be. Since that doesn’t happen I guess we should spend more time learning to ignore the drama and focus on what’s in front of us!! 🙂
