Step Three: Focus on others, care, add value
The three things I listed all go together and are equally crucial to success, happiness, and legacy. Think about the people you like, I mean really like…do they give value to your life? Do they seem to care? Do they always express interest and focus on you? From my experience the answer is yes 100% of the time.
Bob Burg and John David Mann talk about the idea of adding value and focusing on others extremely well in the books “The Go-Giver” and “Go-Givers Sell More”. These books are very well worth the time and money because you walk away with a wealth of knowledge and specific ways of implementing what they talk about (I was just introduced to the books and read them in the past couple of weeks).
Many of the things they discuss in the books I had been applying for the past 14 months in my life and in one of my businesses, so it was a great validation hearing that in their books, but they also provided a great amount of new material to work with that has enhanced what I had already been doing. The outcome has been amazing; my life in general has improved, my business has been amazing, and I’ve even ventured in to other business ideas.
Sincerely caring about people and this journey, and having that reflected in the things you do and say has been an amazing adventure for me. When I started changing how I was doing things 14 months ago it was, in some ways, my AHA moment; and these books rekindled that for me. Adding value to people’s lives can truly be life changing for you. What have you got to lose? Give it a shot. Read the books. I would love to hear your thoughts and your experience.

WOW – thank you for your very kind post about John David Mann’s and my book. Very appreciated!! And, it’s obvious, just from our exchanges on Facebook and Twitter that you are the embodiment of what we mean by a “Go-Giver.” Thank you for all you do, and the value you add to the lives of each of us.
