To my boy, Sammy,<\/p>\n

You turned 2 years old the other day. Wow, maybe seems like no big deal…but it’s a pretty big deal to us! You’re walking, talking (kind of your own version of English, but it’s a good start), laughing, dancing, playing instruments, and entertaining us more and more every day. You’re my boy…my only child…my sweet love.<\/p>\n

This letter to you isn’t meant to shower you with all kinds of compliments about how wonderful and loved you are. We try our best to show you that every day and I believe that actions are better than words. This letter to you is a message from me, telling you my wishes, fears, and dreams for you.<\/p>\n

Soooo, here goes, my funny boy:<\/p>\n

– I wish that you know we will always be your safe place to fall. Whether it’s a skinned knee, a broken heart, or a major life crisis, we’re here for you, no questions asked, no doubt, no judgement, always.<\/p>\n

– I hope that you realize your potential, your power, your choices in this life. I hope that you know that the world is literally at your fingertips and you have the power to create the life that you want. It’s our job to help you realize this possibility.<\/p>\n

– I really really really hope that you know the community of people that love and support you in this life journey. Your ‘village’ goes far, deep, and wide across this planet and if you are kind and respectful of that village you will always have a friend wherever you go.<\/p>\n

– Even though you have your whole life ahead of you, this life is a gift and it is short. Follow your dreams and go do really cool shit!!!<\/p>\n

– While we already know that you’re kind of a badass little dude, please remember that we created you, we pay for everything you consume, and we care for your every need. Please don’t consider that your entitlement!<\/p>\n

– Your dad may get mad at me for this, but know that I will always protect you from anybody that bullies you, hurts you, or makes you feel less than you are. This could result in physical harm…but I’ll try to restrain my impulses.<\/p>\n

– In the same vain as the above statement, please know that if you bring home a seemingly trashy girl and expect me not to comment on her probably-inappropriate attire, her lackluster level of respect for our presence, or her apparent disrespect for her own body. You’ll thank me later.<\/p>\n

– While I promise to do my absolute best not to be one of ‘those’ moms, I know there will be times that you’re embarrassed by me, frustrated by me, and completely over me; but I hope you know it’s all out of love.<\/p>\n

– Just remember, between your dad and I we’ve done that, we’ve tried it, we’ve been there, and we know all the tricks. So, if you’re planning on pulling something over on us, it’s not gonna work!<\/p>\n

– We’re your inner circle, your circle of trust, your core, your caregivers, your parents. We love you. We support you. We want only wonderful things for you. You can come to us with anything and at the very least know that you will receive an open discussion, no matter what it is.<\/p>\n

– Be honest, be caring, be generous, love yourself, tell others that you love them, appreciate the little things, be strong, be confident, and most of all, be YOU!<\/p>\n

So, all that being said, you are a joy and I wouldn’t change this wild ride for anything!<\/p>\n
