Wine Tasting: mid point winery at Bottle Shop

August 14, 2025 matt Leave a Comment

Well, this feels strange. I have not been to a winery to taste wine in quite some time and I have not done a “blog” post about wine tasting in forever. Annie, my wife, and I started our wine blog (originally called Hoot n’ Annie) way back in 2010. I think it was February of that year. We were consistent with it for something like 10 years. I got burnt out. We got burnt out. We got tired of wine. It took a lot of time to do what we were doing back then on top of having full time jobs. Anyways, here we are.

The Bottle Shop is a cool new spot on Railroad St. here in Paso Robles. It currently houses three wineries, if I’m not mistaken. Roberto, at mid point, took care of us. He was informational, not boring, dealt with us well, and was accommodating to our 12 year old son and his baseball cards. He even handled Annie dumping some wine in a wine chiller which she confused as a dump bucket. Can’t take her anywhere.

Here’s what we tasted (that I can recall):

2023 Spirit of Distraction (Grenache Blanc)

2024 February’s Bouquet (Rosé) (80% Mourvedre, 20% Grenache)

No Forwarding Address (30% Counoise, 30% Carignan, 30% Grenache, 10% Zinfandel)

2021 Irreverence (Cabernet Franc)

2021 Kickover (50% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Souzao, 7% Cabernet Franc)

2022 Why Not (33% Tinta Cao, 55% Souzao, 12% Touriga Nacional)

2021 Glitch (85% Grenache, 15% Syrah)

I thought the wines were nice, generally speaking. We are not wine reviewers. I appreciate good hospitality, a cool atmosphere, and good to great products (be it food or beer or wine, etc). In my opinion mid point winery hit these three needs of mine. We took home a bottle of the Grenache Blanc and the Rosé. The first three reds we tasted were probably my favorite. We easily could have purchased a few bottles of those but we just don’t drink wine much at home.

It was cool to go wine tasting once again. We haven’t done that in I don’t know how long. I don’t think we’ll ever go back to visiting 5 to 8 wineries per weekend but I could definitely see jumping into one here and there.

Thanks to Roberto for walking us through the wine list and for dealing with Annie dumping wine in the chiller. Sorry, I had to bring that up one more time.
