For 24 hours on Thursday, May 26, 2011 it was #Chardonnay Day<\/a>.\u00a0 What the heck does that mean, you ask?\u00a0 Well it means that no matter where you are in the world, you grab a bottle of Chardonnay, open it, smell it, taste it, then talk about it.\u00a0 Don’t just talk about it though, tweet about it on Twitter<\/a>, post pics and descriptions on Facebook<\/a>, and share your thoughts, opinions, and ideas in any other social media medium that you dig.<\/p>\n

Why would I want to do that, you ask?\u00a0 Well, because…it takes tasting to a whole new level! You’re not just enjoying your Chardonnay at your house, favorite wine bar, or tasting room, you’re now sharing your thoughts and feelings about it with millions of other Chardonnay tasters across the globe!\u00a0 There are people from California, Washington, New York, Australia, New Zealand, France, (should I go on?) and everywhere in between doing exactly the same thing that you’re doing…and you get to hear what they have to say, and interact with them about Chardonnay real-time!<\/p>\n

How cool is all that???\u00a0 If you’re not all that familiar with the wiley ways of Twitter, the trick is that whenever you tweet, you include “#Chardonnay”.\u00a0 This is called a “hash tag” and what it does is put you in immediate touch with everybody else in the stream using the same hash tag.\u00a0 What power!\u00a0 You can now see what other people are tasting, what they like about it, how much it cost, how it was made, etc. It’s an absolutely infinite source of knowledge and happens to be very social (translated = fun) which is what drinking wine is all about.<\/p>\n

To celebrate #Chardonnay Day, we got 2 bottles of Mer Soleil Chardonnay<\/a>, thanks to the kind folks at Mer Soleil, who have vineyards in the Santa Lucia Highlands region located in Central California.\u00a0 They make 2 distinct and incredible Chardonnays, one barrel fermented in oak<\/a>, and one done with no oak, in cement tanks called “Silver<\/a>“.\u00a0 They bottle the Silver in ceramic bottles to pay tribute to the cement tanks.\u00a0 Both of these wines are awesome in their own right; the oaked Chard being rich, creamy, toasty, and of course, oaky.\u00a0 The silver being more mineral, zesty, tangy and vibrant.<\/p>\n

So, get out there in the ether and participate in the next online tasting!\u00a0 You’ll have fun, drink wine, and meet new friends!\u00a0 What else does a wino need???<\/p>\n
