{"id":1195,"date":"2011-07-22T04:25:49","date_gmt":"2011-07-22T12:25:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.threeadventure.com\/hootnannie\/2011\/07\/22\/getting-dirty-in-the-vineyard\/"},"modified":"2011-07-22T04:25:49","modified_gmt":"2011-07-22T12:25:49","slug":"getting-dirty-in-the-vineyard","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.threeadventure.com\/hootnannie\/2011\/07\/22\/getting-dirty-in-the-vineyard\/","title":{"rendered":"Getting Dirty in the Vineyard!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We love getting out in to the vineyards and learning more about the farming side of winemaking!\u00a0 Guillaume Fabre of <a href=\"http:\/\/clossolene.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Clos Solene<\/a> invited us out to the Russell Family Vineyard, where he has several rows of his own vines, to see one of the very important pieces of the puzzle to creating a fabulous wine.\u00a0 It&#8217;s called &#8220;green harvesting&#8221; and what it means is thinning out the grape clusters so that the vines can focus on the remaining clusters.\u00a0 This results in a more concentrated wine.\u00a0 The difference between thinning clusters or leaving them is producing fruit that has more sugars, more flavors, and just overall richer varietal characteristics than if all the clusters are left on the vine.<\/p>\n<p>Guillaume shows us his process, and his passion for great winemaking shows as he explains how and why he trims the fruit and leaves the clusters that will end up in the bottle down the road.\u00a0 We were in the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Petit Verdot\" href=\"http:\/\/www.snooth.com\/wines\/Petit+Verdot\" rel=\"snooth\">Petit Verdot<\/a> rows;
