There’s this Social Media thing called Twitter<\/a>, maybe you’ve heard of it? With over 100 million users, Twitter is a tool used by these millions to talk about the things they’re interested in, things they’re doing, and a way to connect with other people with common interests. Some call it “microblogging” and we just call it “incredible”. It’s yet another tool that makes the world a smaller place! We participated in the Twitter wine chat celebrating the Languedoc region<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0(pronounced “lahn-dawk”) region in France.<\/p>\n

The Languedoc Region<\/h3>\n

This region is located in the South of France, it lies between the foothills of the Pyranees and the the river Rhone, and has been known for producing bulk wines of mediocre quality. There has been a relatively recent move towards producing smaller lots of higher quality wines that are distributed all over the world. There are over 700,000 acres of planted vines, and the Languedoc region has been responsible for producing more wine than the entire United States in some years. What this all means is they put out a variety of pretty good wines at very reasonable prices.<\/p>\n

The Twitter Tasting<\/h3>\n

So, back to Twitter and this whole Languedoc region wine tasting; what the hell is this all about? Well, it’s about people sharing their experiences with the wines from this region on Twitter by using the common hashtag “#LanguedocDay”. Here’s what you do, you go to your local wine store and grab a bottle or two of Languedoc wine that looks interesting, pour a glass, hop on Twitter and start tweeting about it!<\/p>\n

We picked a couple of bottles…starting with a white wine called “Picpoul de Pinet<\/a>“, a nice, aromatic, light 2010 from the Coteaux Du Languedoc. Considering that we drink a lot of white wines, this was definitely a crowd pleaser at our house and for about $11 a bottle a pretty good way to break into Languedoc wines!<\/p>\n

The next wine was a 50\/50 Grenache & Carignan blend from Moulin de Vissandre. Another great wine for the $9 price point. There’s an earthy nose, with light fruit and tannins.<\/p>\n

Events like this are wonderful opportunities to broaden both your wine knowledge and your online social connections. The world just got smaller and is at your fingertips…the ability to talk to people all over the world tasting wines and talking about them real-time is pretty cool. It’s a whole new game, and the possibilities are endless!<\/p>\n
