This past Friday night we found ourselves at Cypher Winery<\/a> celebrating Grenache Day. I think I\u2019m noticing a pattern amongst wine lovers\u2026let\u2019s make every single day a \u201c_____ Day\u201d so we can celebrate and oh, let\u2019s see\u2026drink wine. Gosh I love wine folks, brilliant plan.<\/p>\n

Cypher Winery was an awesome host and here\u2019s the list of Rhone Rangers that participated:<\/h3>\n

It was a great turnout and the reason I know that is that the humongous parking lot at Cypher was packed and people were even parking across the street. Since Annie and I don\u2019t get out anymore due to having the baby at home it\u2019s really enjoyable for us to be able to get a babysitter and go to this type of event.<\/p>\n

We know we\u2019re going to see a bunch of friends and acquaintances and it\u2019s nice to let them know we\u2019re still alive. That being said though we end up chatting with people and catching up therefore we don\u2019t get to taste all the wines available. In fact I think I only tried about six but all were enjoyable. I know it sounds odd but it was quite chilly (the Templeton Gap will do that to you) and for some reason I dislike the cold and can\u2019t quite really taste the wine like I normally can. Side note: Thanks for letting me borrow the jacket Steve, I owe you.<\/p>\n

The folks from Cypher Winery were making pizzas in the outside pizza oven\u2026which I utilized for warmth (thanks pizza lady). There was also some cheese and crackers out for attendees to chow down on but wood fired pizza wins in my book.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s some information about Grenache via the flyer from the event:<\/p>\n

\u201cGrenache appears to have originated in Spain, most likely in the northern province of Aragon. In Spain, this varietal is known as Garnacha. Grenache was brought to California in the late 1860\u2019s, where its erect carriage, vigor and resistance to drought made it a popular planting of choice. It is vigorous, and at high production makes wines that are simple, friendly and approachable. When production is restricted, Grenache can assume tremendous depth and longevity, yet can still open up tighter, more tannic varietals such as Syrah and Mourvedre.\u201d<\/p>\n
