I\u2019m sure a lot of people knew but I had not experienced this magical goodness before. So here\u2019s what happened\u2026our friend Sean (the infamous grilled cheese guy) said he was going to bring some cupcakes over because they were freakin\u2019 awesome. As someone that does not get all giddy over sugar and desserts I thought it would be cool but holy sugary sensations Batman\u2026it blew my mind.<\/p>\n

He brought three different cupcakes over, a Tiramisu, Mexican Hot Chocolate, and a Red Velvet. These were created by Delightful Desserts Bakery<\/a> on Spring Street in Paso Robles. With little to no planning we decided to open up three port\/ dessert wines that we had in our wine\/ vacuum\/ broom\/ excess crap cellar.<\/p>\n

Here is what we opened, a 2004 Capodecina Dessert Wine from Black Hand Cellars<\/a>, a 2003 Zinfandel Port called SoZinHo from Silver Horse Winery<\/a>, and a 2007 Zinfandel port from Wild Coyote<\/a>. We cut up the cupcakes so we each had some and we tried each port with each cupcake.<\/p>\n

Here are the results:<\/p>\n

Tiramisu: First Place- Wild Coyote (Silver Horse tied for first with me), Second Place- Silver Horse, Third Place- Black Hand Cellars<\/b><\/p>\n

Mexican Hot Chocolate: First Place- Wild Coyote, Second Place- Silver Horse, Third Place- Black Hand Cellars (side note: the Silver Horse and Black hand were WAY off for this one, Wild Coyote was perfect)<\/b><\/p>\n

Red Velvet: First Place- Silver Horse, Second Place- Wild Coyote, Third Place- Black Hand Cellars<\/b><\/p>\n

I had a blast with this. As I said earlier I have never really done a dessert and wine pairing. I\u2019m really not into cupcakes, cookies, chocolate, or whatever. I know, there must be something wrong with me. These however, were awesome. It seems the Tiramisu was first place for Sean and I while Annie liked the Mexican Hot Chocolate the most.<\/p>\n

Good times in the big city\u2026can\u2019t wait for the next debaucherous food and wine extravaganza. I\u2019m still dreaming about those grilled cheese we did. DAMN!<\/p>\n
