Sadly, the event stopped in 2012, BUT made its way back home to Paso Robles this year. I didn\u2019t realize how much I missed it until we wandered the event on the <span data-term=\"goog_329249052\">Friday<\/span> of the two-day event.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Seeing all those familiar Rh\u00f4ne faces from literally, all over the world\u2026it kind of felt like going home.<\/p>\n<p>So here\u2019s what we participated in <span data-term=\"goog_329249053\">on Friday<\/span>:<\/p>\n<p><span data-term=\"goog_329249054\">9:30am \u2013 10:45am<\/span> Seminar One: The Intricacies of Ch\u00e2teauneuf-du-Pape<\/p>\n<p><span data-term=\"goog_329249055\">11:00am \u2013 12:15pm<\/span> Seminar Two: Washington Rh\u00f4nes \u2013 State of Address<\/p>\n<p><span data-term=\"goog_329249056\">12:30pm \u2013 2:30pm<\/span> Ros\u00e9 Lunch with Chef Spencer Johnstone of Danior To Go<\/p>\n<p><span data-term=\"goog_329249057\">3:00pm \u2013 4:00pm<\/span> Private Trade and Media Tasting<\/p>\n<p>My favorite two things of the day were the Ch\u00e2teauneuf-du-Pape seminar run by Rh\u00f4ne wine king, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.erobertparker.com\/info\/jdunnuck.asp\">Jeb Dunnuck<\/a>, and the Ros\u00e9 Lunch. Jeb put together an amazing presentation with absolutely superb wines and the lunch was amazing.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s what we tasted in the first seminar:<\/p>\n<p>2010 Domaine de la Font du Loup &#8211; 55% Grenache, 25% Mouvedre, 15% Syrah, 5% Cinsault<\/p>\n<p>2012 Domaine de la Vieille Julienne &#8211; 60% Grenache, 10% each Syrah, Cinsault, Counoise, Mouvedre<\/p>\n<p>2012 Domaine de Cristia &#8211; 100% Grenache<\/p>\n<p>2010 Domaine Bois du Boursan &#8211; 65% Grenache, 15% Syrah, Cinsault, Counoise<\/p>\n<p>2010 Domaine du Vieux Telegraphe &#8211; 65% Grenache, 15% Mouvedre, 15% Syrah<\/p>\n<p>2012 Domaine du Pegau &#8211; 85% Grenache, remaining Syrah, Mouvedre<\/p>\n<p>2012 Clos du Mont Olivet &#8211; 75% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 10% Mouvedre<\/p>\n<p>2011 Le Clos du Caillou &#8211; 60% Grenache, 40% Mouvedre<\/p>\n<p>2012 Domaine de la Mordor\u00e9e &#8211; 80% Grenache, Missed the rest of the blend.<\/p>\n<p>2010 Domaine de la Janasse &#8211; 85% Grenache, 10% Mouvedre, 5% Syrah<\/p>\n<p>These wines were so fascinating; such depth and range of flavor. It was interesting to taste so many wines from the same region with such diversity and they were all excellent in their own right (sidenote from Annie). I\u2019m primarily a Paso Robles and California wine drinker so this was such a delicious tasting through Ch\u00e2teauneuf-du-Pape. My favorites out of these were the Domaine de Cristia, Domaine Bois du Boursan, Domaine du Pegau, and the Le Clos du Caillou. These wines ranged in price from roughly $50.00 all the way up to about $120.00. Well done to Jeb Dunnuck, your passion for Rh\u00f4ne is clear.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s what we tasted at the second seminar:<\/p>\n<p>2015 R\u00f4tie Cellars \u2013 Southern White, Washington (Viognier, Roussanne, Marsanne)<\/p>\n<p>2014 R\u00f4tie Cellars \u2013 Northern Blend, Walla Walla Valley (Syrah, Viognier)<\/p>\n<p>2014 Tenet Wines \u2013 The Pundit, Columbia Valley(Syrah)<\/p>\n<p>2013 Tenet Wines \u2013 Tenet, Columbia Valley (GSM)<\/p>\n<p>2013 Gramercy Cellars \u2013 John Lewis, Walla Walla (Syrah)<\/p>\n<p>2013 Gramercy Cellars \u2013 Lagniappe, Columbia Valley (Syrah)<\/p>\n<p>2013 Force Majeure Vineyard Grenache Estate<\/p>\n<p>2013 Force Majeure Vineyard Syrah Estate<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m not going to get into the full story of Washington wines but if you want to geek out\u2026go learn about it. From the West to the East side of the state is very different. The history and impact of the Missoula floods on the Washington terrior is absolutely surreal. Mindblowing, actually.<\/p>\n<p>I enjoyed these wines for how different they are from Paso Robles. I\u2019ve had Gramercy before but the other two labels were new to me. Great tasting and truly interesting information.<\/p>\n<p>The Ros\u00e9 Lunch is amazing because\u2026um\u2026.Ros\u00e9. The lunch menu consisted of:<\/p>\n<p>Foie Gras Royale and Brioche \u2013 Raspberry and Ros\u00e9 Champagne Gelee, Pickled Mustard Seeds, California Sea Salt<\/p>\n<p>Snap Pea, Morel and Spring Arugula Salad \u2013 Fromage Blanc, Mint, Green Garlic Vinaigrette, Toasted Pasticcios<\/p>\n<p>Grilled Vegetables \u2013 Local Asparagus, Young Potatoes, Romanesco<\/p>\n<p>Grilled Skuna Bay Salmon &#8211; Dill Cr\u00e9me Fraiche<\/p>\n<p>Whole Roasted Pig &#8211; Onion Jus<\/p>\n<p>Pan d\u2019Oro Breads &#8211; Fresh Churned Butter<\/p>\n<p>Dessert Choices \u2013 Assorted California Cheeses, Strawberry and Rhubarb Crisps, Buttermilk Custard, Chocolate and Salted Carmel Tart<\/p>\n<p>There is absolutely nothing I can say negatively about the lunch. It was done beautifully and we tasted roughly eight or so Ros\u00e9s. Quite literally, this is my heaven. Well done Chef Spencer and the crew.<\/p>\n<p>Big thank you to all who participated, all that helped put the event together, and HUGE thanks to John Alban, Vicki Carroll, and Faith Wells. This is the one event that always expands my wine knowledge outside of Paso Robles and allows me to converse with other Rhone wine lovers from around the world. A very unique and special event.
