We recently went on a new adventure. Although, we had been to San Simeon before we had not explored the pier or beach there. When we first left the house we planned on heading to Moonstone Beach again but once in Cambria decided to head further north and check things out.<\/p>\n

The beach was great. It was clean and not busy at all when we first arrived. By the time we left it was filling up but still not bad. From the pier you could head north or south to walk the beach. We chose south.\u00a0 As I said, the beach is clean but it\u2019s also quite big, meaning that there was good space from the ocean waters to the end of the sand.<\/p>\n

Sammy had a blast running around, throwing rocks, pretending small pieces of driftwood were guns, throwing the Frisbee, and he even got in a bit of rock climbing (you can see that below in the slideshow). After walking the pier and playing on the beach we, of course, had to find food and wine.<\/p>\n

Right down the road is Sebastian\u2019s. There you will find the tasting room for Hearst Ranch Winery<\/a> as well as a second location for Chef Ian McPhee, known for his restaurant (McPhee\u2019s Grill<\/a>) in Templeton. Chef Ian happened to be there when we arrived so we introduced ourselves and chatted with him. Such a nice guy!<\/p>\n

We got a glass of the 2015 White Wine \u201cThree Sisters Cuvee\u201d and the 2014 Chardonnay \u201cGlacier Ridge\u201d. Both were quite nice but I leaned toward the Three Sisters Cuvee. We also got a bottle of the 2015 Rose \u201cJulia\u201d to enjoy a glass there and bring the rest home. Their Rose is awesome.<\/p>\n

On the food side of things, we shared the Bacon Avocado Cheeseburger ($14.00), the Southwest BBQ Chicken Salad ($13.00), a side of fries ($3.00), and Sammy had the two chicken strips ($5.00). All the food was amazing but that burger was superb. Well done, Chef Ian!<\/p>\n

If you\u2019ve never been over to San Simeon it really is a must. The beach, the pier, and of course the wine and food. It\u2019s quaint and you can almost feel all the history of that area going back to the Hearst family<\/a> and most notably, Hearst Castle<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I have a feeling you\u2019ll be seeing us over there a bit more often!<\/p>\n\n\n
