Our friend Lisa had won a vineyard tour of Adelaida Vineyards<\/a> so she invited Annie and I, along with another friend Amy, to join her on this little adventure. One cool aspect about this was that our friend Glenn Mitton who works for Adelaida, was the one giving us the tour. So, needless to say, it was a fun 3-hour tour.<\/p>\n

This was our (Annie and I) first time back to Adelaida since the new tasting room was completed. If you haven\u2019t seen it yet, it\u2019s absolutely gorgeous. You can see some photos of the interior in the slideshow below.<\/p>\n

When we arrived, we got to hang out in the club members’ lounge and sip on some of their 2016 Rose (which was lovely) while waiting for Glenn to get back from the tour before us. The lounge was a comfortable, rustic, and beautiful spot to chill for a few.<\/p>\n

While on the tour we got to taste their 2014 Pinot Noir (HMR Estate Vineyard), the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon (Viking Estate Vineyard), and once back to the tasting room we tried their 2015 Picpoul Blanc (Anna\u2019s Estate Vineyard) and the 2014 Cabernet Franc (Signature Series Viking Estate Vineyard). The wines were beautiful. Again, it\u2019s been quite some time since we last tasted but we\u2019ve never been disappointed with a wine tasting at Adelaida.<\/p>\n

Regarding the tour specifically, there was a ton of information given to us by Glenn from the history of the land, the walnuts, the different estate vineyards, farming practices and sustainability, the varieties they grow, the current and previous owners, and so much more. This was one of those tours I just tried to enjoy and take photos rather than notes. Glenn was a wealth of knowledge and I strongly encourage anyone that wants to learn more about the historic properties and taste some beautiful wines to get out there and schedule a tour.<\/p>\n

The tours typically take about two hours but we were fortunate to get a little extended time. You can learn more about their tours here<\/a> and more about their vineyards here<\/a>. In addition, you can read more on their history here<\/a>. Having lived in this area since 2003, I am continuously impressed by all of the rich history of this area.<\/p>\n

One other note on the tour, part way or most the way through it, Glenn took us to a picnic table up on one of the vineyard hills for a picnic. Imagine that, a picnic on a picnic table. It was quite the spread, different cheeses, sausage, olives, estate walnuts, artisan bread, olive oil, and more. It was an amazing spot and the people weren\u2019t bad either. Thanks to Lisa for the invite and to Annie and Amy as well. A BIG thank you to Glenn. We\u2019ve known him for several years now and he truly is one of the kindest people we know and, as I said, a brilliant wine mind.<\/p>\n
