On September 23rd<\/sup>, we attended the Heirloom Tomato Festival at Windrose Farm<\/a> for the second year in a row. It\u2019s a great event focused, obviously, on tomatoes. The event boasts being able to taste over 40 varieties of tomatoes grown at Windrose. I\u2019ll tell you what, at last year\u2019s event when I heard that I had no idea that there were that many types of tomatoes. Blew my mind.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a great event at a fantastic venue. If you\u2019ve never been out there you really need to go check it out and chat with owners, Bill and Barbara Spencer. They are hard-working, salt of the earth people. You\u2019ll catch Bill giving tours during the event and Barbara doing whatever needs to be done to make the event operate smoothly. We need to give Lynette Sonne with FARMstead ED<\/a> a big high 5 for the work she puts into this event as well.<\/p>\n

Along with chowing down on some of the freshest, most delicious tomatoes around we also enjoyed bites of food from places like Templeton Hills Beef (they had an amazing little slider, see the pic in the slideshow below) and others. There was a delicious avocado, tomato toast as well as, believe it or not, a tomato inspired ice cream. The photos in the slideshow below will tell a better story than I can but we really do enjoy the vibe of this event. Mellow. Easy-going. Casual. Tasty!<\/p>\n

The Windrose Farm website says they welcome visitors Tuesday<\/span> through Saturday<\/span> 10 am \u2013 5 pm<\/span>. Here\u2019s a bit more info from their site:<\/p>\n

\u201cFarm tours are available on Saturdays, please call or email beforehand to make sure we\u2019re around! There is a fee of $10 per person, kids are free and tours normally last about an hour.<\/p>\n
