Turns out nobody knows. It seems it\u2019s simply a term that means \u201cI don\u2019t know why your baby cries for no reason\u201d. Hmmm\u2026very helpful, thank you.<\/p>\n

Here is the most recent research I\u2019ve seen about it, \u201cWhat Causes Colic? Gut Bacteria Might Play A Role<\/a>\u201d. The idea in this article makes sense but at the end of the day it still doesn\u2019t put a definitive answer to the question of colic. Our boy, Sammy, appears to have gone through some very mild colic behavior and for that we are fortunate, but based on the bit we went through I understand how incredibly hard it can be for parents.<\/p>\n

It can be extremely traumatic for parents for two reasons, 1) when your baby screams your instinct is to solve it but you can\u2019t when it\u2019s because of \u201ccolic\u201d and 2) there is simply nothing pretty about a screaming baby and attempting to keep your sanity through all this can be a monumental task.<\/p>\n

The only thing I can say at this point is that this too shall pass. If you\u2019re going through this with your infant it does get better and thankfully they do say it ends by the 3rd or 4th month. Along with the link to that new study in the second paragraph above, below you will find a few more links below with some basics on colic. I hope it helps you find some peace! Now our boy only cries when he is fighting sleep, hungry, or bored\u2026these cry\u2019s are WAY better than those colicky cries.
