\"photo(149)\"<\/a>It\u2019s an interesting thing to be a parent and even more interesting when you\u2019re a first time parent to a newborn. No matter how much you read or how much advice you get, your baby is going to do some weird stuff that you did not see coming\u2026at all. As the biased father of Sammy, I like to think that not only is our baby a good baby but better than good. Knock on wood, he hasn\u2019t been sick yet and he is going on three and a half months old. He is also sleeping anywhere from 5 to 9.5 hours straight in the night\u2026typically only getting up once but falling back to sleep after eating.<\/p>\n

So we really have nothing to complain about, it\u2019s all smooth sailing\u2026until a day like yesterday when for no apparent reason he feels the need to scream, turn red, and not stop for an hour. What happened, Sammy? What is it? What is wrong with the baby? Should we call the doctor at 7pm on a Monday night? Why did he go from cooing and smiling to a red faced, screaming baby? We can theorize all we want but that changes nothing.<\/p>\n

The point to this is that yes, Sammy has been a really good baby and for that we are extremely thankful because we\u2019ve heard some crazy stories about other babies! But no matter how much you prepare for babies, you won\u2019t be prepared. Babies are still a mystery like the deep sea and space. I really, really believe parents need to stay strong and be confident in what you are doing. I also think parents need to surround themselves with positive people and not the ones that just rattle off all kinds of advice and insinuate that you\u2019re doing something wrong.<\/p>\n

Parenting, like life, is hard enough; we really don\u2019t need any help making it more difficult, traumatic, or dramatic than it already is. As the parent though you cannot expect for this to just happen; you really need to make the effort to create a positive environment for parents and for the baby. Most importantly you need to expect the unexpected. Things are going to happen\u2026some funny, some gross, and some that seem scary. You baby is like no other baby. If you hear that your baby is eating more than average or less than average don\u2019t freak out. Consult your pediatrician not your friend that just had a baby.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a wild ride but it\u2019s your ride. Enjoy it and fill your home with positive energy, good people, laughter, and ride this wave of parenthood. Once you get your head on right about it, it really is a massively fun little project!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
