\"fairytales\"<\/a>We’ve written about things that they don’t tell you when you get pregnant, things they don’t tell you when you have a newborn, and tons of other unexpected stuff, but here’s a new and developing list! Now that Sammy is almost 6 months old, our days are spent actually playing with him! In other words, he responds to us with laughter, facial expressions, and random noises when we jump around just enough at just the right time looking for that next laugh from him. Until recently, he’s mostly been a sleeping, pooping, spitting-up blob laying in a bouncie seat. Not that he doesn’t eat and poop these days (he really does!) but things are changing right before our eyes!<\/p>\n

1. Your personal hygiene habits will be compromised: certain personal grooming will definitely go out the door! It could be shaving your legs, plucking your eyebrows, or blowdrying your hair, but trust me, SOMEthing will be sacrificed in the interest of needing\/wanting to spend more time playing with your kid!<\/p>\n

2. You’ll realize how many fairytales are actually evil: seriously, think about it! Snow White gets poisoned, Sleeping Beauty gets poisoned, Rapunzel gets locked up, Ring Around the Rosy is all about death and the plague, and Rock-a-Bye Baby includes a cradle falling. No wonder we had nightmares when we were little!<\/p>\n

3. You’re gonna have to learn how to “play” again: yeah, bet you didn’t think about that one, did you? You’ll find yourself doing things that you never thought a grown adult should ever do! And it’s super fun!!! Dancing around, singing, rolling around on the floor, tickling, giggling, and making all sort of weird noises and faces are the mainstay of infant entertainment!<\/p>\n

4. You don’t really know any of the words to the rhyming songs because it’s been so long! “Knick knack patty whack, give a dog a bone” was all we could come up with…forgot about all the other key lyrics to that one!<\/p>\n

5. Some cartoons are kind of cool! Some are definitely not cool! Not sure I should name any here at the risk of pissing off any other 6-month olds!<\/p>\n

So…the moral of the story is to forget the mani\/pedi for now and get down on the floor with that baby! Enjoy the play time, because I’m sure it won’t last forever!<\/p>\n

5 Things Nobody Told You About Baby Playing<\/p>\n
