Getting in the Zone Together<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

As Sammy\u00e2??s one year birthday comes speeding at us it definitely makes you realize that life is going by entirely too fast. It\u00e2??s been kind of funny to have these moments here and there where I really \u00e2??see\u00e2?\u009d him as he is today. I mean, I see him all the time but those moments where you can pull your head out of the busyness of life and parenting and sincerely be in the moment\u00e2?\u00a6that is when I really see this evolution from baby to little boy.<\/span><\/p>\n

I wish I could make those moments happen more often but it\u00e2??s the battle of having two businesses, marriage, taking care of a house, and so on. I\u00e2??m sure there are a lot more people than just me that go through this same thing. Those moments though, when I am truly able to be present, are fascinating to me.<\/span><\/p>\n

How to Get in the Parenting Zone<\/h3>\n

Here\u00e2??s what I mean\u00e2?\u00a6in those moments I notice how quiet I get and how everything around me disappears. The closest thing I can describe it as is \u00e2??the zone\u00e2?\u009d. If you\u00e2??ve ever played sports you know what I\u00e2??m talking about. When you\u00e2??re in that you don\u00e2??t hear the crowd or see anything but your goal\u00e2?\u00a6maybe it\u00e2??s the basketball hoop or maybe it\u00e2??s the catcher\u00e2??s glove\u00e2?\u00a6that\u00e2??s what I feel when I am in the zone with Sammy.<\/span><\/p>\n

What\u00e2??s even stranger is that it feels like same day payday loan<\/a> he gets it when I am in that zone for a moment with him. He seems so peaceful and remarkably quiet for the screeching pterodactyl that he can be at times. It\u00e2??s in those moments that I can see his face the first time I saw him and right next to that is his face today. The changes, the process, the evolution, the growth both physically and mentally\u00e2?\u00a6all very hard to wrap my mind around.<\/span><\/p>\n

I would still use the word surreal to describe this journey as a dad for this first 11 months and roughly 21 days. It\u00e2??s been the most challenging thing I\u00e2??ve gone through and the most amazing. It has tested me and made me better in many ways while still seeing the weaknesses I have that need to be tended to. One of those weaknesses is finding more ways to rid my life of the busyness in order to have more of those moments with him of being in the zone. It\u00e2??s about letting go of \u00e2??how things should be\u00e2?\u009d and letting things be as they are.<\/span><\/p>\n

The takeaway: We need to try and spend more time in the zone. The only way I know to do this is to slow down, get rid of the excess stuff and thoughts that tie us down, and focus on those things that are actually important to you. It\u00e2??s hard to ditch obligation and the \u00e2??have to\u00e2?\u009d stuff\u00e2?\u00a6but those moments are so worth it.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
