\"First<\/a>When is the right time to do your first night away from your child? Who really knows, but due to circumstance and how busy our life seems to be, we did our first overnight away from Sammy when he was 13 months old. I think we all would have been fine doing it sooner but as I said, it\u00e2??s just the way things seemed to work out.<\/p>\n

Some folks may laugh but we went about doing this in a very easy, low stress way for all involved. Our friend, Megan came to our house when she got off of work on Tuesday, which was about 5:30pm, and we left to go stay right downtown in Paso Robles. We figured this was good for all of us because if something did happen we would be close by and it still allowed me to get some work done locally. The other thing that worked out great with this is that I do some work for Broken Earth Winery<\/a> and they are one of the wineries that has a sponsored room at the Paso Robles Inn<\/a>\u00e2?\u00a6so I was able to get their room for the night. Winner, winner chicken dinner.<\/p>\n

A quick note: I think what the Paso Robles Inn<\/a> has done by partnering with some local wineries and having them decorate a room is brilliant. The rooms are fun and obviously wine themed and cheers to the wineries that jumped on board with that program. On top of that there is nothing like staying right downtown within walking distance of all the great restaurants AND staying in such a historic place.<\/p>\n

Back to the topic at hand\u00e2?\u00a6Our First Night Away From Baby<\/h3>\n

So we go downtown with a feeling of nervousness as well as freedom. It\u00e2??s a mixed bag really. We trust Megan and her hubby, Brock, completely so where is the nervousness coming from? I think for me it\u00e2??s hoping that Sammy is good for them so they will come do this again some time. Maybe it comes from leaving him for the first time or maybe it comes from that feeling I get often of not wanting to be a burden on people. Regardless, we needed to take the time away.<\/p>\n

After checking into the room we decided to walk right downtown and ended up going to the new joint called Second Press<\/a>, located where the Meritage Wine Bar used to be HGH<\/a>. I will go more in depth on what we thought of the place on our other blog but we loved it. They did a great remodel and the food we tried was great. We also ran into some friends there so it was cool to chat with adults without worrying about what time it was and when we need to be home by.<\/p>\n

Once we finished up there we decided to head over to La Cosecha<\/a>. This place is owned by the same folks that own Il Cortile Restaurant<\/a> downtown and has quickly become a favorite hangout for us. As we were walking around to these places it reminded us of when we used to live downtown on 12th<\/sup> Street. We would go out walking all the time\u00e2?\u00a6sometimes just around the neighborhood but often downtown for food and adult beverages, back in our pre-Sammy days.<\/p>\n

That was a very interesting time for us, we were discussing whether to get pregnant or not and what the future looked like in either scenario. It\u00e2??s pretty surreal to look back now on all that. We loved walking around our little downtown on our night away from Sammy and reminiscing about that and where we are today. Once finished at La Cosecha we headed back to the hotel and you know\u00e2?\u00a6.wait for it\u00e2?\u00a6go to sleep. We\u00e2??ve both been exhausted lately and I think it\u00e2??s due to work, Sammy, and all the activities we pack into our lives\u00e2?\u00a6so sleep was needed.<\/p>\n

The next morning we hung out in the room, I worked a bit and we had a great breakfast at the restaurant in the Paso Robles Inn. I recommend sitting in their old style caf\u00c3\u00a9 breakfast bar area when you have breakfast there\u00e2?\u00a6old school and awesome.<\/p>\n

The takeaway: Getting away from your kids is great for you and for them. Remembering to spend solid time with your significant other is very important and I actually suck at that, between Sammy and my addiction to work my mind becomes full and I lose focus on the most important thing. I want to do better moving forward with that and also attempt to make work less of an addiction. I think Annie and I will always enjoy our time away from the little dude but we will always enjoy coming back to him\u00e2?\u00a6he makes us laugh and the love he gives is endless and unconditional\u00e2?\u00a6pretty awesome.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
