14-month old Sammy<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Sammy, our sole offspring and fruit of our loins is 14 months old today. We all talk about how time flies, so saying that this 14 months has flown by seems too repetitive but it\u00e2??s true\u00e2?\u00a6most of the time. While watching Sammy go from being a few seconds old to 14 months old has certainly gone by quickly, there are those days in which time seems to stand still and screw with you.<\/p>\n

You know the type of days I\u00e2??m talking about\u00e2?\u00a6ones where your kid is not happy regardless of what you do, ones where you don\u00e2??t feel you can get anything else done because they consume your time like Cheerios, or ones where the high pitched screaming (he likes doing that for fun) is so annoying you\u00e2??d rather be at the eye doctor having some tedious procedure done.<\/p>\n

If you\u00e2??ve never had those days with your child where you feel time is standing still and punishing you I commend you for having a perfect life and butt loads of patience (and I call bullshit). As much as I feel like I am a good dad and very present in life and times, patience is not number one on my list of personality traits.<\/p>\n

All that said\u00e2?\u00a6.from the very second Annie got pregnant with Sammy, life changed. There are feelings that go on inside that are indescribable. One word I have used from day one all the way up to this very moment is surreal<\/i><\/b>. I think this word still holds up to be most accurate from my experience. Watching someone that is part you grow and learn and evolve into their own person has been extremely humbling. I\u00e2??m not sure there is anything in life that tests you more than having offspring but I can also say nothing gives greater joy.<\/p>\n

I used to think that the hardest thing was dealing with other people\u00e2??s criticism of what you do or don\u00e2??t do for your child but I have learned the most difficult thing is vigrx website<\/a> just letting go. You may ask, \u00e2??let go of what?\u00e2?\u009d and my answer would be everything<\/em><\/strong>. We tend to be very hard on ourselves and often more self critical than anyone else could ever be of us. If you can find a mental place in which you step aside and get out of your own way, the art of parenting is allowed to take place. There is nothing to \u00e2??live up to\u00e2?\u009d other than just love your baby.<\/p>\n

It is indeed easier said than done, but keep at it\u00e2?\u00a6I know I have to remind myself all the time to just take a deep breath and be in the moment. Heck, as I write this Sammy has been having kind of a hard time and it\u00e2??s okay. He\u00e2??s not doing it on purpose and if I get frustrated with it I\u00e2??m not a bad dad for putting him in his crib for 5 minutes\u00e2?\u00a6life goes on.<\/p>\n

In the end\u00e2?\u00a6I\u00e2??m not sure what all of this means. I don\u00e2??t know where things will be in the next 14 months and I don\u00e2??t care. I don\u00e2??t know if I\u00e2??m doing it right or wrong. I don\u00e2??t know whether he will be a productive member of society when he\u00e2??s older or possibly a meth head. I mean\u00e2?\u00a6do any of us actually know?<\/p>\n

The takeaway here, in my opinion, goes back to what I said earlier\u00e2?\u00a6we have got to get out of our own way. We need to get out of our own way when we are parenting, working, playing, being creative, or whatever else it is you crazy people do. I am the only thing on this beautiful, amazing blue marble that can stop me from doing anything\u00e2?\u00a6and you are that for you too. Get out of the way. Be you. Live and let live. Do the best you can and then do better. Work then work harder. Love then love harder. Create then create more. Be exhausted and soak up every ounce of this experiment called life!<\/p>\n
