This image may not seem like much. It\u2019s just Sammy walking in to school. I take him to school in the mornings and have always parked and walked in with him and waited with him until either class has started or one of his friends shows up. This week, however, I asked him if he wanted to walk in on his own. He said yes.<\/p>\n
As he was walking away from me, I just stood by the Jeep. I had mixed emotions. It was another moment that was quite symbolic in some ways. I mean, he\u2019s getting older. It happens. We all grow up and do more things and evolve and all of that. This image, to me, symbolizes him getting old and getting more independent. It symbolizes him letting go of fear or \u201csecurity blankets\u201d. In some ways it symbolizes him venturing out into the world on his own.<\/p>\n
I had flashes of him living on his own, getting married, having kids of his own, and one day, me not being here. I love seeing him grow. I love seeing his independence. I love seeing who he is becoming. That said, it\u2019s also sad. He\u2019s getting older. Time goes by. I feel my mortality in some ways in this photo.<\/p>\n
That\u2019s life though, right? We all go through it. We were babies and then kids and then young adults and so on. Time marches on. I feel extremely fortunate to have been given the privilege to have this life but the down side is realizing time is ticking away. I\u2019ll end by saying this\u2026although he can irritate me to no end, it has been the privilege of a lifetime to watch his life thus far. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
