\"\"<\/a>As I sit here eating some \u201cBeer Nuts\u201d that we purchased from BevMo, I\u2019ve been thinking a lot about the conversation that has been brought up again by the recent news story<\/a> about Yahoo hiring 37 year old Merissa Mayer (formerly with Google) to run the show. This alone was making headlines because\u2026prepare yourself\u2026she\u2019s a WOMAN!!! To add fuel to the fire she announced she is also 6 months pregnant (so is my wife). What in the hell is this crazy woman thinking? What are any of the pregnant women thinking???
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

Why Can’t Pregnant Women Have a Career?<\/h3>\n

Well, I don\u2019t know what she\u2019s thinking but I can tell you what I\u2019m thinking, you ready?<\/span><\/p>\n

Who gives a flying saucer what she does? Why do we second guess everything all the time? She\u2019s a big girl, let her fail or succeed as she sees fit. This is her life, her book to write the chapters of; if she fails it is her failure to get over and if she succeeds she can give the bird to all the critics mocking this decision by Yahoo. Not all women could do what she is doing, just as not everyone could invent electricity. Will the next three months\u2026six months\u2026be difficult for her? Yes, of course. But does that mean she will fail? No.<\/span><\/p>\n

I think of our own situation, Annie and I are expecting a baby in October and she works in a male dominated field. She\u2019s been a professional (meaning a real suit and tie type of job) since before I met her and she has balanced her life amazingly well. What will she do when the baby is born? Aside from the maternity leave that she will take, her plan is to work as she can from home during the maternity leave and then go back to work. We\u2019ve been working toward the goal of having me be able to work from home in order to care for Little Browne. I can run most of my painting company around these duties and schedule things based on Annie\u2019s availability. I also have an online business that can be done from home as well.<\/span><\/p>\n

The point is, why do we (society) saddle people with our own fears, doubts, boundaries, and limits? Whether it\u2019s Marissa Mayer or Annie Browne, they are choosing their life path; it is not our responsibility to add hurdles on that path. How amazing would it be if we could be supportive and encouraging of such decisions rather than be defeating of such goals? Annie and I (and from what it sounds like Marissa Mayer and her husband) are making decisions for ourselves that we believe will be most beneficial for the three of us, so if you have something negative to say about the goals we have, the things we choose, or the way in which we do things\u2026stick it up your tailpipe. <\/span><\/p>\n

We may fail, we may succeed\u2026but it\u2019s OUR failure or success, let us have that. <\/span><\/p>\n

The overall point to this post is, why do we still have issue with women in business and why would we ever question a woman\u2019s ability to perform her duties because she is pregnant? I understand pregnancy can lead to issues and that it can keep you busy, but if some women choose to go that route, let them. I know this won\u2019t change, because at the end of the day men are assholes and women are catty\u2026but at least I got this off my chest!! And to Annie and Marissa\u2026YOU GO GIRLS!!<\/span><\/p>\n
