Choices suck! We’ve had Democrats and Republicans around since the early to mid 1800’s and the battle continues. I can’t imagine what it was like way back then but I know how it has been the last 20 years. Even in my time it seems like things have gotten progressively worse in politics. The rise of 24 hour cable television talking heads certainly has not helped. At the end of the day though, what we are seeing is more bickering and finger pointing instead of more collaboration and problem solving.

We have a f#&%ing crisis in this country, and not just one, we have multiple catastrophes happening at once. Some ideas of mine, which I know would be VERY difficult to implement and would make many people/ countries angry but we have serious problems and we need REAL solutions. We can’t be candy assed about this anymore. Originally I was for the wars, I’m not anymore. Bring our troops home, which would save money, and put them at our borders, which would help solve the immigration issue. This simple act would end the war, save money, and help with the immigration issue.

Next, an immediate freeze on all money the U.S. sends to other nations, period. The freeze would last for however long it took for us to solve our issues at home. With this money available, we would put it toward education and the debt. After that we go after entitlement programs, sorry folks, but we are in this together and we all have to sacrifice. Unions need to go and programs like welfare need to have a time limit (i.e. 12 months, or 24 months), some of these programs do legitimately help people but more often it is teaching/ breeding laziness. State/ public employees, especially in California, need to be re-evaluated regarding their pensions, etc. These too will have to be cut.

The next thing to do is audit the government to see where we can cut costs and reduce the government work force; again, I apologize but our government is overpopulated. In regards to education we need to leave a system of seniority and base hiring, firing, and pay on merit!! This MUST happen in my view if we expect anything to change. Cutting funds to education is basically slitting our own throats. Education is the backbone of this nation; it must be reformed and propped up with any funds necessary.

So, back to the first paragraph, choices suck and they suck for many reasons. Generally speaking, BIG change scares us, and politicians know that. Are we, as the citizens of this country, willing to sacrifice to grow and move forward? Are the unions willing to come up with REAL solutions and follow through? Are we willing to get tough? Most importantly, are the bobble headed politicians willing to come to the middle for REAL solutions? This country will remain on this downhill slide unless REAL people step up with REAL solutions and fight for what’s right for this country, not for a special interest group or political party.

Lastly, Republicans and Democrats; stop acting like bickering children and leave your party affiliations at the door. Start solving the damn problems!!
