Dessert Wine at the Hoot House

February 12, 2010 matt Leave a Comment

We love some good wine for dessert…this includes ports, dessert wines, and late harvests.  Not huge fans of the syrupy sweet wines, but something with some great flavor and smooth consistency will really do the trick.  If it happens to pair well with a cigar, well, that’s an even better dessert!

So, this was a 2004 “Black Monnuka” from Rotta Winery in Paso Robles.  Rotta is one of the original pioneer wineries in SLO county, originating in 1908.  Wow, right?  So, the first time we came across this wine, Annie had a glass at Vinoteca Wine Bar in downtown Paso Robles.  All we kept talking about was Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough!  OMG…that’s what it smelled like, and that’s what the lingering flavor was after each sip!  Talk about the perfect dessert…woohoo!

This is made from the Black Monnuka grape varietal and is technically a baked cream sherry.  Hey Rotta, you did good!!!
