Carina Cellars-A Wine Oasis in Los Olivos

May 12, 2011 matt 2 Comments

Carina Cellars
Carina Cellars Front Window

Located in the same downtown Los Olivos tasting room as Tensley Wines, Carina Cellars is another great spot…and you can’t beat tasting two wineries in one room! Carina Cellars also has a tasting room in Paso Robles, which we hope to go visit soon and share with you as well.

So, about the wines; they make about 2,500 cases, give or take, and mainly Syrah and Syrah blends. One of the Syrah blends is 93% Syrah and 7% Viognier (known as 7 Percent), while another one (Iconoclast) is 67% Cabernet Sauvignon and 33% Syrah. There was also a 100% Mourvedre that we got to sip on.

Hoot is liking a lot of the Syrah’s down in the Los Olivos neck of the woods due to them being cool climate Syrahs versus the warmer climate Syrahs we typically get in Paso Robles. The wines mentioned above really stood out for us on the day we tasted, but there are several other wines on the list, check out the Carina Cellars website to see what else they are creating.

And if you’re ever traveling through that area, you really should stop in and check out what they are doing at Carina Cellars and Tensley.

Hope you had the pleasure of tasting Blair Fox while in Los Olivios!
It would be a shame to have been so close and not enjoyed his masterful Syrah’s!
