Come on in, the Water's Wine!

July 5, 2011 matt 6 Comments

That’s the tagline that Alapay Cellars uses, and it’s true! You step down into their tasting room in downtown Avila Beach and you feel a little bit like you’re underwater!  They’ve got these beautiful salt water fish tanks that you can’t take your eyes off of as you taste through the list of wines.

Yeah, the wines…great list of wines, a bunch of varieties and just an overall great selection.  From Viognier to Zinfandel to Lagrein to Muscat, Alapay is bound to have something that will float your boat! This is a family run joint, Scott makes the wine, and his wife Rebekah is his muse, as well as recently opening the great little clothing shop right next door!

Alapay does about 5,000 cases a year, and they’ve been doing this for about 10 years or so…it’s just one of those places that you want to hang out at!  Apart from the fact that they’re located right downtown in Avila Beach, they’ve just got it all figured out; a beautiful tasting room, great wines, awesome people, and just an overall cool vibe.

So, head on out to Avila Beach…taste some wine, shop for some cool gifts, and then relax by the beach.  Life is GOOD!!!

Smart move, I would have done the same thing to get out of the PR heat. Did they have fireworks on the beach? Wow, they kept going on until 11:30 in my area.

Hi Bev! They do fireworks at both Pismo Beach and Cayucos, but not at Avila. Thinking we’ll be spending a lot more time on the coast this summer!

I agree with you, I would spend more time at the beach too, since it isn’t that far. Could you see the fireworks from Avila beach that Pismo and Cayucos were shooting off, or did you go home before the fireworks?

We were in Avila on Sunday…so they weren’t doing fireworks. We watched the Paso fireworks Monday night at a friend’s house. She has a great view of the fireworks…it was the perfect spot! Did you get to watch fireworks too?

City Hall did fireworks on Sunday which I have a good view from my house, after leaving my son’s girlfriends mother’s house at 7:00, we just watched the neighbors all around shoot off all the illegal ones, it was nice. And watched the fireworks on TV.

Sounds like you got your fill of fireworks then! I love Summer holidays…but it’ll be Christmas before we know it!
