Sea Glass Festival in Cayucos – Who Knew???

March 21, 2012 matt 10 Comments

Friends of ours recently invited us to go along with them to Cayucos where a Sea Glass Festival was going on…Sea Glass Festival? We had no idea one existed but maybe everything should have a festival; just another reason to celebrate right?

What’s a Sea Glass Festival All About?

It was actually pretty cool, lots of great jewelry and other knick knacks made from sea glass found from beaches all over. People go out hunting for pieces of glass that have been tossed around in the ocean for forever and then make cool stuff out of it. There are tons of different colors…and the glass is really neat, almost recycled looking (okay, it is recyled). Some of the vendors came to this festival from as far away as the East Coast, but who wouldn’t want to come to the West Side baby!

There were many local restaurants providing food in the “Taste of Cayucos” tent along with many wineries pouring, although Hoot was drinking beer. There was a great spread of things like fish tacos, sausage sandwiches, clam chowder, you get the idea. Not sure you knew this, but we like food…and wine…and beer…and the ocean, so the Sea Glass Festival brought all this together for us. Oh yeah, and all the cool Sea Glass stuff. We saw tons of beautiful jewelry, some sculptures, vases, and other assorted artistic-type handmade items.

It’s been so cool to see events that the Central Coast has been bringing in, everything from the Amgen Tour to classic car shows to this second annual Sea Glass Festival. It seems everyone could find something to satisfy them, but if not, at least all (or most) of the Central Coast events have wine…it’s a win win! Come on out and find your “something”, you know you can!

WoW !! Wish you posted pics of some of the art and jewelry…but I know artists can be a bit sensative about that. Is there a web site that posts the date? I’d love to see this next year 😀
