Thacher Winery

Paso Robles Wine: Thacher Winery

February 18, 2013 matt 3 Comments

We recently headed over to Vineyard Drive in Paso Robles to check out Thacher Winery. It had been over 4 years since we had been there so figured it was time to get back out there. It’s a beautiful drive out to Thacher Winery and once you get there the property doesn’t disappoint either.

We were greeted by a couple of winery dogs which I was happy to see weren’t the jump-up-on-you type…especially since we had Sammy with us. They just had to check us out and welcome us, then they were off to do their own thing.

Once inside the cozy little tasting room the work began, tasting wine I mean. The two ladies in the tasting room were great, gave good information on Thacher and each wine that we went through. They were easy to chat with and due to having Sammy with us we ended up talking about babies quite a bit.

Thacher produces about 1,800 cases and have about 4.5 acres planted. They source all other fruit from within 10 miles of their property with the exception of a Syrah they get from Monterey. Here’s what we tasted:

2010 Viognier

2010 Vin Rouge (71% Syrah, 29% Grenache)

2008 Syrah

2009 GSM (48% Grenache, 36% Syrah, 16% Mourvedre)

2010 Controlled Chaos (47% Mourvedre, 42% Zinfandel, 11% Grenache)

2010 Zinfandel

We also tasted their Kentucky Ranch label:

2009 Vio (white)

2009 Rose

2008 Red (unknown blend although tasted like Zin/ Syrah

Our favorite wines on this trip were the 2010 Viognier, 2010 Vin Rouge, and the 2009 GSM. We had a good time out there and appreciate the quality customer service. Check out the short video of Annie and the winery pups below. Cheers and Happy Monday!

Awesome video loved the music in the background too, so happy to see you Annie, looking good. The winery/vineyard looks great and the wine list you tasted sounds tasty too. So sweet to see little Sammy taking a nap, once he starts walking he will gladly welcome the winery pups.

Bev, it’s a cool spot and I am sure Sammy will make friends with all the local winery dogs…that should be fun. 🙂 We had a fun day…nice being able to do stuff all together.

[…] couple weeks back we headed out on the wine trail, imagine that. We ended up at Thacher (which we posted about on Monday) and finally made it out to Villa Creek Cellars. Villa Creek has been on our radar for some time […]
