Paso Robles Rhone Rangers

Paso Robles Rhone Rangers: Grenache Blanc

July 31, 2013 matt Leave a Comment

The local Rhone Ranger misfits put this “Hot Tuesdays” event on from time to time but I must say, there was nothing hot about last night. For some reason the HOT weather we normally have this time of year in Paso took the evening off and when you add the breeze into the mix I was actually quite chilly…and yes I am a big baby, thank you.

That being said, we had a great time. This time it was held at Summerwood Winery and the participating wineries were:

Alta Colina

Ambyth Estate

Burbank Ranch

Chateau Margene

Clayhouse Wines

Halter Ranch

Hearst Ranch Winery

Jada Vineyard

Lone Madrone

Mitchella

Niner Wine Estates

Pomar Junction

Ranchero Cellars

Summerwood Winery

Tablas Creek

Thacher Winery

We did not try all of the wines, mainly because I’m trying to become less of a drunk but we tasted through about 11 of them and overall I was really impressed. Few of the wines were 100% which I don’t mind, necessarily but it would be cool to see more 100%’ers done. The blends were awesome though, Annie and I are huge fans of white wines, white blends, and especially Rhone wines.

I was a big fan of Mitchella’s offering, which was 100% Grenache Blanc, as was Burbank Ranch’s wine but I preferred their 2012 over their 2010. I also, as usual, loved the wine being poured by Alta Colina, Lone Madrone, Ranchero Cellars, and Tablas Creek.

It’s honestly hard to say this wine is better than that wine, in my opinion. I prefer saying this wine is different than that wine and this one has the characteristics I tend to prefer. Wine, as you know, can be funny. You may love this wine today but tomorrow you may prefer a different one. As we always say it really does depend on mood, environment, what you recently ate, and who you’re hanging out with.

Maybe that’s why we all keep coming back to that special adult juice in a bottle…it’s mystical and enchanting, not snotty and closed off. There’s something for everyone so get out there and get your drink on and be sure to look for the next “Hot Tuesdays” event put on by the local Rhone Rangers.
