Thacher Winery

August 19, 2010 matt 6 Comments

If you can imagine rolling hills, grassy fields, old barn buildings and great wine, then you might be thinking of Thacher! The site is on the old Kentucky Ranch property and you couldn’t come up with a better layout! The tasting room looks out in every direction and each perspective is beautiful, especially through the picture windows framed with rich wood! You’ll get to taste through their list of wines and it’s pretty much assured that you’ll find something that agrees with your palate.  Sherman Thacher started as a brewmaster, making award winning beers for several years.  He and his wife Michelle have been in love with the Paso Robles area for years now, and when the Kentucky Ranch property came up for sale a few years back they took the opportunity and snatched it up.  There are 2 labels that the winery produces under; Thacher and Kentucky Ranch, and together they make up their 1800 case/year production.  You’ll find Viognier, Syrah, Zinfandels, and some other red Rhone varietals, along with some really cool blends.  Go check them out, you’ll have a great time!

I just checked out their website and signed up on their mailing list. Wow what a cool place, any horses?

Bev – so glad to hear you signed up! That’s cool! No horses that we saw, but Kentucky Ranch used to have a bunch, I guess…that’s the way the story goes. Cheers!

Plenty of horses just down the road at Chateau Margene! They are quite friendly and it also happens to be the farm where Thachers get their dry farmed walnuts!
