Our Three Favorite Wines from February 2014

March 3, 2014 matt 6 Comments

Here we go again, another month has been fast forwarded through and tons more wine was drunk. I will dive right in…here are our favorite wines from February:

Annie’s 3 favorite (or most interesting) wines from February:

2011 Austin Hope Grenache – always a good bet! Great Grenache!!!

2007 Eberle Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon – Gary Eberle is the king of Cab! Get some of this!!!

2012 Caliza Kissin’ Cousins (62% Viognier, 26% Grenache Blanc, 12% Roussanne) – This was rich, creamy, and with just the right amount of acidity!

Matt’s 3 favorite (or most interesting) wines from February:

Les Racines – Les Pallieres Gigondas – I know little to nothing about this wine or any like it but Annie ordered this downtown and it was very good.

2010 Browne Family Vineyards Red Blend (Columbia Valley) (51% Merlot, 39% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Syrah) – I have to give props to any wine that has my last name on the bottle. My dad had purchased this and we tried it when we were up in Sacramento last week. It was actually quite nice…and smooth!

2006 Steinbeck Viognier – Our friends brought this to our house back when we had that cocktail party. Interesting side story was they also had purchased that wine when the four of us had done a wine tasting day years ago. That was one of our favorite days with those guys so not only is the wine good but there was an awesome memory attached.

So there you have it…wine!

I hope everyone out there in cyberspace is doing well. Maybe take a few minutes out of your day today and sit somewhere quietly…take a deep breath…and just be. I’ve been doing more of that lately and even if it’s just for a moment…it’s good to reconnect with yourself through a little silence and solitude.

Cheers!

Another good lineup! I like Steinbeck’s writing, curious about the wine!

David, Howie Steinbeck (owner and founder, his daughter is involved now too) has a great reputation with vineyards and the wines I have had from them are very good. He has a long history here.

Thanks for the good looking label shot. Probably the best wine we have ever produced, but anyone who made bad wine in ’07 should open a gas station. Grapes were way to good to make anything less than very, very good.

Steinbeck Viognier is also super. Great varietal expression from that bottling.

Gary, been a fan of Steinbeck’s wines for a while and you’re absolutely right about the Viognier. Good stuff!!
