Paso Robles Wine: Halter Ranch Vineyard

October 8, 2015 matt 2 Comments

Here’s blog post on another winery we recently hit up when we had a couple of friends in town. The first thing I always mention to people about Halter Ranch is the absolutely stunning property. Not only is it stunning, there is great history there and the fact that they are one of the most sustainable, green wineries around is also impressive.

This is another Paso winery that we’ve been going to for 6 or 7 years and have always enjoyed. I feel they have upped their game year after year and not just with the wine. They have continued to upgrade the property year after year as well.

So here’s what we tasted:

2014 Rose (71% Grenache, 13% Mourvedre, 9% Syrah, 7% Picpoul Blanc) $21.00

2014 Grenache Blanc (77% Grenache Blanc, 19% Picpoul Blanc, 2% Roussanne, 2% Viognier) $28.00

2013 CDP (54% Grenache, 22% Mourvedre, 18% Syrah, 6% Tannat) $32.00

2013 Syrah (95% Syrah, 5% Viognier) $35.00

2013 Cabernet Sauvignon (78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Malbec, 9% Petit Verdot) $35.00

2013 Ancestor Estate Reserve (44% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Malbec, 22% Petit Verdot) $55.00

Loved the wines. Standouts were the Rose, Grenache Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Ancestor. Our friend Christine who was with us loved the Ancestor so much she bought a bottle to take home to Toronto. That’s saying something because she could only take two bottles home so obviously she loved it.

Another great Paso Robles winery. You can learn more about them on their website here. They have a ton of info about their winery, caves, the tours they offer (an excursion tour, winery and cave tour, and a barrel tasting tour), and their SIP Certified sustainability commitment.

Cheers!
