Paso Robles Wine: Paydirt

March 2, 2016 matt 3 Comments

We recently went over to taste the wines at Paydirt because Annie’s cousin just started working in the tasting room. Super glad we did that because the wines were really nice. It was cool to see our friend Blake in there as well.

Here’s what we tasted (along with some notes provided by Blake):

2012 Sauvignon Blanc (80% Sauvignon Blanc 20% Semillon) $18.00

2014 Zinfandel (94% Zinfandel 4% Petite Sirah 2% Alicante Bouchet) (20% New French Oak) $25.00

2013 Reserve Zinfandel (85% Zinfandel 15% Petite Sirah) (50% New French Oak) $35.00

Proprietor’s Blend (46% Zinfandel 26% Syrah 12% Grenache 12% Petite Sirah 4% Mourvedre) $25.00

Going for Broke (57% Zinfandel 27% Syrah 7% Petite Sirah 7% Grenache 7% Mourvedre) $30.00

2013 Reckless Abandon (56% Mourvedre 30% Tannat 14% Zinfandel) $35.00

The Zin shocked me the most I’d say. I’m not a fan of the “typical” Zin but this one was not overdone. In other words, it didn’t punch you in the face screaming “I’m Zinfandel”. Very drinkable…and we like drinkable. We also enjoyed the Sauvignon Blanc (another variety I’m not typically a fan of) and the Reckless Abandon.

Paydirt is located over by Hug Cellars which is in that industrial area by Hwy 46 East off of Tuley Road. They share a tasting room with Rendarrio Vineyards but have two unique tasting areas. I really dig the vibe in there. Thanks again to Blake for all the 411 regarding the wines, always helpful when tasting a label for the first time. Thanks to Brooklyn too.

As always, go check them out and let us know what you think.

Love the arty labels and that the wines are good too. Need to get there for tasting – and to see Brooke! Nice write up, Matt !

We found Paydirt a few visits ago. We are huge fans. We have met Blake and he was very knowledgeable. I love the story of the painting./label On our last trip, we did purchase that Zin!
